Are Lindholm and Lindstrom enough for our rebuild

Created by: habitantlecolon

Description
Will Elias Lindholm be available on July 1st?
Will the Habs be enough lucky to draft Cayden Lindstrom
Will those 2 be enough to spark our rebuild team into a bubble team?
Is buying out Armia the best option if we can't trade him?

So many questions and so much time to wait ...!..

I don't know, theres a few things that worry me:

Will harris or barron develop as 7th dmen, and with prospect depth of hutson, guhle, reinbacher, maillot, struble, xhekaj too much and soon to overtake those two? I would think if both or either being the 7th they should be dealt, because they're never going to get and keep a top 6 spot with that depth.

Size: The top 6 is not very big, and Lindholm is not a physical player, and the top 12 forwards are not up to the task physically. While Dach and Evans play a gritty game, Anderson alone has size. For that reason, maybe Lindholm isn;t the guy, and somebody with size and skill is needed in that top 6: Anderson and Gallagher arent that guy.

Other concerns: Evans at 3C is a reach, and Roy on 4th line a waste, alot of speed and skill in top 6, 3rd line probably isnt effective enough without a real playmaker and not quite a shutdown line either, not quite convinced that the goaltending is above average.

I'm starting to think that next season is going to be another rebuild-part season.

Probably, but I'd think if you're not going to play them, guys like Barron or Harris will have trade value now or in off season, but not after demotion or not playing, and prospects like Roy needs to get some playing time in in the top 9, or Reinbacher are ready, etc.... Really if its a rebuild season again, then maybe 29 yr old Lindholm (by far the best UFA center on the market this year) is not needed in 2024-25, and maybe use some of the draft capitol/prospect depth for a trade, especially if they're not going to play. And why keep declining assets like Dvorak, Anderson, Savard, etc... if the rebuild is on for another year or two.

Maybe see if PHI will trade Couturier for Anderson kind of thing? Or Seguin from DAL, Kadri from CGY, Bennett from FLA kind of thing? Or LW Crouse from ARZ? (Expensive contracts yes, but guys with size who are still playing well (and should continue to do so for another 2-3 yrs)?

Lindholm seems to be the sole 2way center asset available in the next 2-3 years ... Market is getting thin as fudge

Only big UFA this yr at least, but theres alot available (Frost, Rantanen, Tavares, etc...) in trade or UFA the following year.

My point is, if 24-25 is a rebuild year, maybe its not the time for a definitive solution, and a vet guy (playing well) who can assist the youngsters in top 6 for a while isnt a bad option who can maybe slide down lineup and still be an upgrade in 2-3 yrs time over evans or dvorak

I'd have to think that Couturier (signed for big money/long term) who plays great 2 way and is a 50+ pt guy might be a solution in the immediate and then as he ages (if they keep him) slide down to 3C.

Partly because he wouldn;t cost tons, partly because he brings size, vet leadership, playing well. Dump Anderson on them and one of Barron or Harris kind of thing?

Due to the sparse market, we should notch this kind of player instead of waiting. I do think that a 1-2 punch of Suzuki and Lindholm, offer us the best 2-way center line of the league for the near future.
