Tanev from CGY deal is probably quite a nice return, although Maatta and Veleno arent really what theyre after, but the 2nd, 3rd, 4th is hard to ignore

Really comes down to how much NASH likes Berggren, because other than the 1st rounder, theres not tons there that they'd want.

I think the Flames pass on this. Take Maatta out and it's probably close, but I think teh Flames will still be looking for more quality than quantity

If they move saros they'll get better offers and better pieces. Tanev deal almost makes sense but maybe ghost instead of Maatta that way Calgary make cap space to retool for next season but I find it hard to believe they don't get a 1st + a kicker for him.

Ok what? The reported asking price is a second round pick. How is taking a good defenseman on a decent contract out helping value? Veleno is having a great season and wouldn't be on the table anyways.

I think its close.

Tanev, without retention is worth a late 1st to a contender.

In the above, you're getting a 2nd, 3rd, 4th which is as good or better than a late round 1st, you're also getting a bottom 6 forward who is young and cheap (although not a need), and a one year of Maata to a team maybe losing 4 of its starting six defensemen.

I think its a good deal for CGY

I just saw a report that they are waiting for a 1st. The original proposed asking price was a second as last I knew before seeing that. They should get it in my opinion.

The asking price is a 1st by all reports and it's also been reported they've been offered a 2nd plus a prospect from Vancouver.

Clearly we disagree on the value of Maatta, to me he's a straight up cap dump, he hasn't been "good" for some time. Even if he has bounced back this year, he's not a piece that turns the crank for Calgary and would just clog up the left side where we'd like space for a prospect next season. His value is negligible at best.

Now on to Veleno and is "great season"... great for him maybe, but a 24 year old at less than a half point a game is not having a great season. His value is not that high, probably somewhere between a 2nd and a 3rd.

So again, this is more quantity than quality, I'd rather try for that first round pick and if we can get it from the right team, it could even fall in the 22-26 range.
