The 3rd pairing is not god awful and also not what's going to fix this team. This team has a scoring problem. Not a defending problem. While their defense isn't amazing, it's league average. Get with it.

The third pair really hasn't been a problem at all, so i'm not sure what game you're watching. The problem has been typically wherever Graves is parked (except on the third line he's been better than 1st/2nd). Wasting $3.25M on a third pair defenseman is absolute garbage asset management.


Retool doesn't mean Guentzel is gone. They'll move Smith, they'll look to move someone like Rakell and Graves and have a good chunk of cash to compete.
