Blues wings oilers 3-way Buchnevich Perron Parayko

Created by: CantStopWontStop
Team: 2023-24 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 26, 2024
Published: Feb. 26, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Blues receive Detroit prospect Berggren*, Detroits 2024 1st, Cody Ceci, Warren Foegele, Philip Broberg*, Edmontons 2024 1st and 2nd.

* or equivalent prospect

Detroit receives Buchnevich. Detroit wants to keep Perron, however, the ice time comes from somewhere, and I don’t know that Perron would be happy to have Buchnevich come take all his minutes. If there’s another way that’s fine, but the deal makes sure Perron ends up in the playoffs where he belongs. Edmonton benefits from cheap good skaters cause of their cap situation. Stl can cut their pay in half to make it work.

Oilers receive Parayko, Perron, Blais with stl retaining on the forwards as needed.

Blues fully rip the bandaid.

Detroit massively upgrades its top 6.

Oilers massively upgrade their shutdown pairing, get 2 low aav skaters.

Blues get about the same number of draft assets as last seasons deadline with the exception that the quality of the received prospects is much higher, and should include nhl caliber, ready or near ready individuals with good track records. If the two proposed prospects do not meet that criteria then they need to be replaced with prospects who do. Blues have a developmental season next season, secure a very low draft pick, and use it to flip to contention.

Bonus: if anybody can fit an about to be ufa scandella into their cap he’s free to sweeten this deal. Else he goes to market.

Hmmm... Interesting, the only thing I don't like is Blais coming to Edmonton

I think Edmonton would need a cheap nhl proven bottom 6 body to make it work cause they’re kinda up against it roster wise.

Only thing I'm hesitant about is losing Perron from that room right now

Why would the Blues do either of these?

If the Blues are wanting to rebuild then this is fine, but I think they want to try and stay competitive.

I wouldn’t want that either. The only reason I included him is because the icetime has to come from somewhere and he’s up there in years. It’s probably an idea killer tho. I think any of his old teams would welcome him back as well (both stl and Edmonton). Shows his character and value. Is also why I sent him to edm. He deserves the playoff run.

it'd suck, but we'd be getting a top-6 talent lol

Yep. We'll see how this week goes. 2 teams chasing and then FLA. Then right before the deadline on the road at COL. Woof. They get 6 points out of that, then keep the team together.

honestly, replace Perron with a 2nd and I'm still content.

Ceci and Foegele make less combined that Parayko. They can't afford this deal. People underrate Ceci in here quite a bit. Also Foegele is important in that locker room. He is also a very good defensive forward, which is also underappreciated on here.
I don't see Detroit doing that deal. Buchnevich is going to want big money going into his 30s, likely not something they will want to do. Also we aren't good enough to be giving up assets like that. Perron is also an integral part of that locker room. Value may be fine and we could use a player like Buch, I just think it's too early for where our rebuild is.

The proposed deal adjusts easily. Edmonton removes its second, doesn’t get Perron. Blues would still accept if I were gm.

Absolutely not. And wherever did you get the idea the 24 draft is better than the 23 draft? That's crazy.

It's better from a dman standpoint - definitely not from forwards. It also gets really thin/uncertain after middle of first round. Blues 2nd and 3rd rounders could be home runs potentially with uncertainty or could be duds.

I don't think it's better on 1st round Dmen at all. It's just so much worse for forwards that it seems better.

I can definitely see Yzerman going after either Buchnevich or Vatrano since Yzerman wants players with term left, But Perron is absolutely no longer on the block. They're working on a 1-2 year deal for him. He's a valuable locker room guy.

ok - agree to disagree. Much more dmen will be taken in top 15 this year than last. There were 3 last year.

My belief is that extension news and the berggren contract rejection news occurring at the trade deadline are not coincidental and likely are due to an offer similar to the one above being considered. Evaluate the paths, the cost of walking down them all, then pick the best one.

Re-signing Leddy to let Frenchy walk was the hugest mistake. Huger than trading too much for Leddy in the first place. Perron was the emotional leader of the team. And you see what we're left with since he was let go. Again.
