It therefore follows that only one season later, getting him back would require at least a first, which is an asset with lots of future value because it buys a player under team control for at least 7 seasons. As a UFA, Brodie doesn't have close to that value. Similarly, Anaheim isn't going to trade a player who will play at least 25 regular season games plus the playoffs for you in exchange for a guy who won't play ANY games for the Ducks before his contract expires. (The monkey point is worthless.) And @Droakner is right on his value analysis even if he left out the fact that Bertuzzi, too, is a UFA -- Bertuzzi hasn't set the world on fire lately and Holloway and Edmonton's first are both more valuable than he is.
