Why would the Canes consider that? Neither Gus nor Sissons are worth giving up any of KK, Pesce, or the 1st. Especially considering that neither Gus nor Sissons would help with the problems the Canes have.

NSH declines. No thanks on Kotkaniemi. Not sure why they'd want Pesce, if they were tearing down and selling off non-rental players.

Pesce has not been good this year, hes a ufa and the chances we resign him are slim Chatfield has been 10x better he’s the RHD we need to pay, kk is a 3rd line center stuck on the the 4th line because he’s not good enough to be a 2c and the team likely didn’t anticipate staal sticking around this long when then offer sheeted kk. Nyquist adds scoring and Sissons is a real 2c and it allows drury to reunite with Noesen on the 4th line, Nyquist and Sissons both have term at an affordable price, bear adds a depth defenseman with term for cheap.

False all around.

Sissons wouldn’t be our 2C. Chatty has only been better because he is highly protected and not 2C material. While Nyquist would add depth he is another perimeter winger. We have those. Add in his TOI wouldnt be 17+ minutes here. So we paying for a premium to have his production dip here.

Neither player here is worth subtracting those pieces from the team

Subtracting Pesce from this team doesn’t change much he has not been good, directly responsible for both Minnesota goals last night, only reason Chatfield is “protected” is Rod won’t give more minutes to him because of his loyalty to Pesce, and by that logic Orlov is protected aswell on playing a couple more minutes a night compared to chatfield. Poor kk doesn’t have a true role on this team Habs rushed his development and now we’re trying to play him in places he doesn’t belong, he’s a bottom 6 shutdown center and Staal owns that role on this team and still has 4 years left on his contract, better to free his cap hit and let him go to a team that will use him properly.

Care to elaborate, probably not because everything I said was true.

If you believe most of that is true there is no discussion needed to be had

Very insightful, you’d probably give pesce a ridiculous extension like 7x7 even though he’s been the worst or 2nd worst dman on the team this season including TDA

It’s no secret Rod is loyal to his guys that have been here for a while Chatfield averages 15 and orlov averages 17 minutes a game both have been exponentially better than Pesce who averages 20 but whatever you say, try saying something with some thought behind it for a change.

You’re judging all 3 players incorrectly.

Rod/Gleason/Daniels all play guys more that play the right way.

Chatty and Orlov get the easiest assignments. So sure they have looked better for stretches. Pesce and skjei get the hardest assignments then the slavin pair. Orlov moved up before chatty. Chatty has speed and all but he isn’t a 2nd pairing candidate.

Pesce only has a chance to be exposed. He plays the hardest minutes and gets little to no pp time.

Pesce wouldn’t and shouldn’t get 7x7. We should be looking for a better 2RD for next season. I don’t even want to get him to get another deal from us as he is prime to break down quickly.

This isn’t some conspiracy or playing favorites. Pesce is the best defensive player if those three. Orlov could barely tell where were he was on the ice for the first 6 weeks. Its hard to argue he could take pesce’s spot.

I agree Orlov didn't look good early but it's always difficult to adjust to the canes man to man system and he was paired with TDA a lot of the time who isn't good defensively, Pesce wanted a new contract in the offseason didn't get it and his name was in trade rumors all summer which I'm sure has affected him mentally, the team he's been with his entire career and drafted him won't pay him and might trade probably wearing on him but if you're not going to extend him at some point you have to consider getting Orlov and Chatfield more ice time as they've been one of the best pairs in the league albeit playing the third pair but Orlov is making nearly 8 million and Chatfield has exceeded expectations at some point you need to see what he can do in an increased role, RHD are very sought after I agree we need to upgrade that position but we might have one in Chatfield that we can resign for relatively cheap, and I'm not saying Rod is playing favorites he just trusts Pesce because he's played at a high level for us for a long time just not so much this season. I just think Pesce needs a change of scenery and maybe he needs to play in a more traditional zone scheme.
