Hockey News Oilers edition disagrees with you.

2024 1st Round Pick, 2026 1st Round Pick, 2026 2nd Round Pick and Philip Broberg.

Considering the Oilers have no legitimate prospects to offer that would make sense but they also can save a 1st and trade for Tarasenko.

Coming from a Blues fan who has watched them both play a lot recently, Buch is much better this stage of their careers. Buch is also signed for next season.

They could and then risk losing him for even less next year too. Ken Holland is high on Broberg whether you agree with his assessment or not he’s bullish in trading him for short term help. I think it’s realistic to believe warren foegle will be going back in any trade bringing in a top forward just for cap purposes. If PB had 2 more years after this I would jump all over it. But two firsts plus Broberg and foegle is a lot. I would think the oilers should pay that sort of premium for another top 4 /top pairing dman like they did last year for Ekholm. The oilers really don’t need another top 6 forward as much as they could use the upgrade on D.

I don’t think 1.5 years of Buchnevich is worth almost the same as what Eichel was traded for. But you can dream

Eichel got Alex Tuch. There’s nothing of the sort in either of these.

Trust me on this one, the upgrade from Tarasenko to Buchnevich is worth the extra assets

Who Tuch is now isn’t who he was at the time of the trade. He still wasn’t even a top 6 player when he was traded.

When comparing the deals you have to the Eichel deal:
Vegas trade:
Edstrom = Tuch
Korczak = Krebs
1st = 1st
2nd = 2nd
.. so pretty similar value.

Edmonton trade:
Broberg < Tuch (slightly more value on Tuch)
Foegele < Krebs (again slight more value to Krebs)
1st = 1st
1st >> 2nd
… where you overvalue your deal here is with the 2 guaranteed 1sts round picks. That’s quite an overpayment.

The reported ask right now starts with multiple 1sts, but that’s the initial ask. I know you’re a smart enough guy to know that the initial ask is always higher than the final price or even what the team expects to get. It’s just how negotiations work. Look at Calgary - they were asking for a 1st for Chris Tanev and ended up with a 2nd and a prospect. You always ask high to see if anyone will bite but they rarely do right away unless they’re desperate.

Tuch already had a 50 point season in the NHL when he was traded. Edstrom has never laced his skates in the NHL hardly the same

Considering Buch’s salary and term 2 firsts is highly realistic. 191 pts in 193 games as a Blue currently. You’re upset because teams want Buch and not Guentzel.
