Calgary having three first rounders this year while still maintaining a competitive team would be crazy. Like Boston in 2015

If the Flames were backed into a corner and forced to move Markstrom, maybe. They're not though, it will take a blow your socks off deal to get him.

Don’t see why the Flames would move Markstrom without atleast Holtz and a first involved.

So the Avs trade a signed D who they can afford for a UFA D they can't afford to re-sign and send a 1st on top when the difference is arguably not all that great other than in size? Easy no for the Avs.

So many fans on this site have no confidence in their teams' ability to sign good players. Mind blowing, especially fans of good teams. I guess sports is just an outlet to relieve personal life patterns of false scarcity?

Either we get a haul now or we keep him and let him mentor Wolf to take over the role, or even find a better deal in the offseason, either way im not gonna be disappointed.

It's simple realism. The Avs do not have the cap space. Nothing to do with anything you wrote though what 'personal life patterns of false scarcity' is meant to mean I have no idea.. Hanifin makes 50k less than Girard now. Girard is signed and affordable. Hanifin will want a raise. The Avs already need to shed cap in the off season. Not spend more on another D. It's really just simple maths in the salary cap era.
