MTL trade

Anderson could use a change of scenery, so could Mikheyev. Points in this season and last season below.

54p in 104 games - 0.52ppg - Mikheyev
48p in 125 games - 0.38ppg - Anderson

However Anderson makes 750,000 more a year and has an additional year on his deal compared to Mikheyev. The reason VAN takes the risk of this swap is to obtain a young Dman, Xhekaj. As well as hoping that Anderson can fit into the VAN system better than MTL. MTL makes the deal to gain 5.5M in cap space in that 3rd year and moves a young player from a position they're strong in.

Montreal isn't giving Xhekaj away just to give Anderson a change of scenery. This trade makes no sense.

Habs didn't trade Xhekaj for a 1st round pick value, what makes they would trade him just to get out of a contract they don't need to get out of

Easy no from habs. Anderson has 3 years after this.
We don’t really need cap space next year with all the young players on the team. I’d rather keep him and maybe he finds his groove again.
