How much for Toffoli

Created by: alwaysnextyear
Team: 2023-24 Vancouver Canucks
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 3, 2024

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Petey has actually mentioned him by name as a guy he'd love to play with, and he should be cheaper to acquire than Guentzel.

A 1st seems like enough, but maybe the Devils would want a prospect instead? If Myers stays on LTIR until the playoffs the deal can work without sending NJD a contract. I'd love for VAN to get him back and extend him for a year or two.

What if Canucks trade a couple of prospects along with a 4th-round pick and a 2nd-round 2026 pick for Toffoli?
Does that work?

1st for Toffoli at 50% is probably about right. Maybe prospect+pick.

He's still working out with their farm team I think. But I'd still prefer Toffoli.

I'm sure it would, depending on the quality of prospects.

Toffoli (50% retained) = 2025 1st + Pick One from This Group of Players (Pods, Raty, D-Petey)

If Hoglander is up, I really like him, but it wouldn’t make sense to make him available. Lekkermaki and Willander are off the board no matter what. I’m sure you could also use Colin Millers services. He’s worth a 4th.

If the deal can be done without retention straight up for the 2025 1st that would be preferable for VAN, assuming they can LTIR Myers until the playoffs.

For sure, but I think the Devils will retain so they can get the best return possible. A 1st is going back to the Devils no matter what, but it’s that second piece (whether it’s a young controllable B6 player or B/C prospect) that will ultimately decide where Toffoli goes. At least half a dozen teams (the known ones are Vegas, Edmonton and LA Kings have checked in on him) will be bidding for Toffoli and he has zero trade protection.

Protected 1st + Aidan McDonough

…or…

Young player that kills a hole (Defensive LHD, Bottom-six center with size, goalie)

If we sell, it’s probably with aim to plug holes…or acquire picks/assets we can use to plug holes.

As much as I would love a bidding war…there are a lot of wingers available. If we got a 1st alone, or decent young player and mid-pick, I’d be happy.

We are pretty much in agreement. My bar of satisfaction is set on if the Devils get the 1st and a controllable player who could be on the third or fourth line

I think VAN would be fine adding a prospect like McDonough to put the deal over the top.
