I still can't believe that's all Ottawa was able to get. I know he had an NMC but still...

Why in the world would the blues trade their best defensive prospect. But to your point Tarasenko had a NTC and only wanted 1 team

I mean he is a recent 1st round draft round pick so I would imagine his value is more than a 4th. The bigger question is why are the Blues trading their only D prospect.

Remove Lindstein. Just picture it as pick 29.

So probably a 1st round pick from a heavy contender.

That being said, I think there’s something to be said about how Tarasenko was dealt last year at the deadline, and how his signing process went so poorly this offseason essentially making him choose a 1 year deal. He’s also fired like 4 agents in the past 2 years. I’d guess there’s something there that not a lot of teams want to deal with.

Armstrong is also a pretty notoriously good trader (aside from with Yzerman) and Staios is a 1 year GM. I’d imagine they both handled trade protection differently.

Nonetheless that was a pretty bad return for Ottawa.

Also don’t forget the Blues also got Blais back, who by default is worth approximately 2 1sts since he + a 2nd was traded for Buch who is rumored to have an asking price of 2 1sts so if you like to dabble in that world sarcasm
