Better ? Yes but why would anyone want Wennberg as a 2C?

Paying 11 mil to a 3C is a good way to handcuff your team financially. Trade him with retention if that's the plan

The Leafs biggest problem right now upfront is that while Domi is strong offensively, he is a black hole on D. So our second line is often a liability. Nylander can run a line on his own. Put him with a responsible two-way center in Wennberg, who is also strong on the draw, and a big body in Greenway and that could be a formidable line.

He's currently playing 3rd line center...

My point still stands, you can get a really good RHD for JT if you retain 2 mil min

Edit*** the real issue is the NMC, I feel like he would use it like Pacioretty did this week. Reports are he blocked several trades to contending teams cause he wanted to stay close to family.

This ain’t it.

Pesce ain’t signing in Toronto - rumour has it he wants to stay in the states.
Wennberg likely isn’t a target. Leafs didn’t even call on him at the deadline so there’s not interest from them. He’s not physical enough.
Your second line is awful. You’ve got 2 third liners at best on it and yes Nylander would drive that line but he needs guys that can keep up with him still.
Doubt Roy signs in Toronto although I’d love to see it still.

I could see Bertuzzi re-signing in the summer. He’s coming into form and has had a good year. He was signed to be a playoff performer so that will be the teller. Same for Domi - as much as he’s been inconsistent he’s shown he can be a key contributor to the lineup and he’s physical. Toughest part with him is that the free agent market is weak this summer so he may be brought back as a necessity. The centres are particularly weak this year.
I would also say there’s a 90% chance that Liljegren is dealt in the summer. His time is running out in Toronto and he hasn’t developed as planned, I know they e looked at moving him but not having any right handed shots on the back end to replace him makes it tough. Signing a guy in free agency would allow them to finally do that

Maybe get someone a little cheaper with more of a scoring touch for that line
