PLD V2 24-25

Created by: gpmack95
Team: 2024-25 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 9, 2024

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description

All reports show PIT wanted to extend Guentzel but how the season went forced their hand. NJD told Toffoli door is open to come back, maybe PIT told Jake same? I doubt it and know he isn't coming back, but maybe the moves before FA help Jake come back.

Trades
1.
PIT
  1. Dubois, Pierre-Luc
  2. Grundström, Carl [RFA Rights]
  3. Kaliyev, Arthur [RFA Rights]
  4. 2025 2nd round pick (LAK)
Additional Details:
LAK had a deal in place involving PLD (who they want to move on from) for a goalie. This trade lets the Penguins get younger and a bigger center, moving Malkin to wing. Its very risky, don't get me wrong, but either the Penguins hit big or this helps the tank.

Dubas gets a player he is familiar with (Grundstrom) and a young player that needs a change of scenery.
LAK
  1. Eller, Lars
  2. Jarry, Tristan
  3. Smith, Reilly
  4. 2025 4th round pick (PIT)
Additional Details:
PIT not moving Nedeljkovic at the deadline shows they might want to extend him and make a bigger deal that includes Jarry.

LAK get a starting goalie who would waive for the west coast, a versatile middle six winger they were interested in at the deadline, and a 3C to replace PLD.
2.
PIT
  1. Bahl, Kevin
  2. 2025 4th round pick (NJD)
NJD
  1. Acciari, Noel
  2. Graves, Ryan ($1,500,000 retained)
3.
PIT
  1. Berggren, Jonatan [RFA Rights]
  2. Holl, Justin
  3. Veleno, Joseph [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
DET moves out Holl and gets Rust at a great cap hit (would be a great replacement for Perron). PIT gets Veleno (a really solid bottom six center) and Berggren ( who is looking for a change of scenery same as Poulin)
DET
  1. Poulin, Samuel [RFA Rights]
  2. Rust, Bryan ($2,125,000 retained)
Additional Details:
DET was one of the teams interested in Rust. I would 100% move on from him. He is still a good player and at this cap hit, teams would love to have him.
4.
PIT
  1. 2024 3rd round pick (COL)
ARI
  1. Puustinen, Valtteri [RFA Rights]
  2. Rakell, Rickard
  3. 2024 4th round pick (PIT)
  4. 2024 7th round pick (PIT)
5.
FLA
  1. 2025 5th round pick (PIT)
  2. 2026 3rd round pick (PIT)

My guess Is the Snith and Zeller contracts cost them Matt Roy.

Would Pittsburgh take Ullmark and ship Jarry to LA?

i get the thought process but I have zero desire to have PLD become a Penguin. The guy is clearly toxic and with that contract imo you're not getting enough back from LAK to take him off their hands while giving them three good player.

I was thinking something like this

To Boston: PLD and Reilly Smith
To Pittsburgh: Ullmark and Kaliyev
To LA: Jarry

Another variation might be possible just swapping Kaliyah for Smith and La convincing Ullmark to go to LA

So PIT gets Ullmark and Kaliyev for Smith and Jarry?

Basically yes. Only if LA can’t convince Ullmark to go to LA.

In that case, it would be Kaliyev for Smith
