If we are retaining on skinner I want a real asset. Not to pay mikheyev essentially 6.25 million

its not the same version though. He's totally shot. It's either a one off down year, in which case they should just hold onto him, or this is his new norm, and they should do whatever they can to move the contract.

Have no issue biting the bullet to do this, but skinner would never waive. He chose buffalo cause its in the north east (rejected LA of all places).

"This" is the only way its going to happen though. Think about what the leafs gave up to get rid of one year of marleau. Like the only way you move Skinners full contract without taking anything back is if you give a team savoie or something like that lol.

It just bc YOU wanna move Skinner,
it doesn’t mean the Sabres do in real life

Any sort of trade like this would be VERY surprising

We don't have to trade him though. They did. This trade barely saves any money, just suck it up and deal with it until you buy him out

yeah and thats probably what theyll do. I just meant this being the only path they can take if they were inclined to move on right away (I dont believe that will be the case)

All of these Skinner trades in which either the Sabres include assets or they trade him for less than future considerations (as this one) have no basis in reality.
Hertl was traded for a prospect chosen 32nd in last year's draft and this years first round pick which will be also very late.
Tomas has three more years remaining on his contract than Jeff AND over the last three years Tomas has played in 209 games scoring 65 goals with 162 pts while accumulating a -71 rating.
Jeff is 18 months older but over the past three years has played in 216 games with 88 goals and 185 pts while accumulating a ZERO +/-.
Other than the length of contracts the contracts are essentially identical.
It is unlikely Jeff will be moved due his NTC, but he is far from a cap dump and his return if he accepted a trade should be more commensurate with the Hertl return than this trade.

Well, that is my penny and half for the week.
Fire away, hit me with your best shot!

Here’s the thing with Skinner….
Yes, it’s true he’s overpaid by a couple Mil & his Cap hit is so high that it’ll be hard to find a team that can fit him in
BUT
he’s also still playing well for us & we have plenty of Cap room
So there’s really no reason we’d wanna move him

And if/when we ever do wanna get out of his contract,
it’ll likely be cheaper/easier just to buy him out
