Anaheim Draft and Off-Season

Created by: ItsDuckSeason
Team: 2024-25 Anaheim Ducks
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 10, 2024
Published: Mar. 10, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Assuming the salary cap rises to $92000000 Anaheim will have $39 million to play with. In my book, the next two years are developmental years for Anaheim's young and upcoming core.
Unfortunately, Cam Fowler's contract will be bought out as Anaheim LD is loaded with up-and-coming players (Mintyukov, Zwelleger and Lacomb).

Draft: Anaheim will try to draft RHD Artyom Levshunov because of the Drysdale trade. Anaheim will also trade up to the 5-15 range by using their later draft picks and Frank Vatrano as trade bait and draft a RW.

Forwards: Forwards wise Anaheim resigns young depth players and signs Cutter Gauthier to his elc. I would love to resign Max Jones but, there's no room for him on this team.

Defence: Although Anaheim has great young defensemen, Anaheim still needs to pair them with capable RHDs who can teach them and help them develop. As of which, Anaheim significantly overpays on one-year deals for two RHDs whom Anaheim can trade at the 2025 TDL. Why are these contracts one-year deals? Because Anaheim will have two young RHD rookies next year, Artyom Levshunov and Tristan Luneau.

I 100% hope that Pat will take Levshunov and then trades up into the early teens to take Brandsegg-Nygard — I think he is what Pat says he wants in Anaheim in a player man

Shoot, Lindstrom would be sweet too and still trade up for MBN!

Imagine a top line with both Lindstrom and Carlsson

That doesn't change the point of this post. But, if that's the only thing you're going to take from this, good for you.

Brandsegg Nygard would fit perfectly. I 100% agree he is a PV-type player. For some reason tho I really like Trevor Connelly. I feel like he could be the guy who completes our top 6.

I don't see a reason to jetison Jones in order to keep Johnston, McGinn, or Meyers on the main roster, Jones has frankly been better than all of them and plays with more speed, he's the perfect guy to cycle higher in the lineup as a support piece when you want to put the lines in a blender, or when there's an injury.

As to the defense, be very careful about expecting the rookie D to come in and operate too early, it's more important for the D core to take the time to develop as needed than to be good now, let them marinate in the AHL unless they force themselves onto the main roster. One of Bret Pesche or Matt Roy should be given the Killorn contract to mentor one of the kids. Lastly, there's no need to buy out Cam, just reduce his minutes to 2nd pair, let him train Helleson up, and Zellweger is a natural replacement when the contract is up. I get that he's been brutal this season, but the kids aren't ready to take over yet, remove him and you need to go out and find someone experienced to fill in, and it's just not worth it. But yes, he needs to have his role reduced.
