Description

I know the Toronto trade looks a little weak, but Toronto is currently $3.9mil above the cap so they have to make some space. So for me that's a beggars can't be choosers thing. Plus Bozak and Kessel are good friends so maybe that makes this 3rd line just as good as the HBK line was a couple years ago. Maatta is a cap space move with the benefit of Vegas having too many players and a little light on a solid top 4 defense. Plus it gives the Pens 3 right handed defenders.

TOR has LTIR status with Lupul and Horton, that's $10.5M in cap space they'll get. They'll be about $7M under. They won't be forced to do anything.

Also Bozak and Kessel aren't good friends, they had a bit of a falling out while Kessel was still in Toronto

I wouldn't be so quick to give up on Maatta. He is only 22 and his game can improve. I especially wouldn't move him if all you get is Miller.

As for Bozak that is actually an overpayment IMO. Leafs get a 2nd to use to find a replacement center, get Sheary who is coming off an insane year, and take a chance on Pouliot who is a no risk pickup. Though know that the Leafs can use LTIR to get under cap without a trade. The only risk is a Brown offer sheet which looks like isn't going to happen.
