My wish list for 2024

Created by: sensonfire
Team: 2024-25 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 12, 2024
Published: Mar. 12, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
1. Neither Boston nor Detroit win the Atlantic Division

2. Neither Boston nor Detroit make the Eastern Conference Finals

3. Florida wins the Stanley Cup

4. Win the draft lottery and select Macklin Celebrini with the #1 overall pick.

5. Draft best player available with our second 1st, regardless of positional need. If there's no clear-cut BPA, trade down and add picks for the prospect pool.

6. Find a trade for Jakob Chychrun that allows us to "save face" from the one with Arizona.

7. Find a trade for Erik Brannstrom that nets us a 2nd round pick.

8. Find a good trade for Joonas Korpisalo and buy him out if we can't.

9. Buy out Travis Hamonic

10. Sign Shane Pinto to a long-term extension because if he's signed to a bridge deal, he might get more expensive at the end of it.

11. Sign a quality veteran defence-minded RHD to a short-term deal.

12. Sign a quality veteran goalie to be a stop gap and share the net with Anton Forsberg.

13. Hire a widely-respected Head Coach with a Stanley Cup winning pedigree (i.e. Claude Julien, Mike Sullivan, Craig Berube).

14. Keep Jacques and Alfie around in some capacity, whether it's for the front office or the coaching staff.

Too much for one season of Chychrun. I'd rather the Kings stick with what they have.

It would probably be like a 1st and 2nd imo equivalent

I think the Kings would consider it for the 2025 1st and a prospect (2nd round equivalent). From Blake's comments at the deadline, it sounds like he really wants to hang on to this year's 1st round pick.

Apparently teams prefer 2025 1st over picks later than 20 in 2024

It doesn't have to be with the Kings.

    It can be any team.

I picked the Kings because they were seriously in on Chychrun until Ottawa scooped him up.

I've heard that. Apparently this year's draft isn't especially good after the first 12 or so.

Definitely more than the top 12. Some studs will drop to 15-16. But I think like after that there’s a couple of wild cards and then a fall off

I haven't been paying much attention this year, but the guys on NHL radio said "12 or so." I'll start doing my own research once the season is over.

If Ottawa retains 50% on Chychrun and he signs an extension with the Kings, a 1st + two 2nds will be more than justified.

And he'll all of a sudden be worth way more to you, simply because he'd be playing for the Kings.

And I'm not asking for this year's 1st here, so Blake's comments at the deadline are irrelevant ...

If Staios is going to sell himself short like Dorion did on DeBrincat, you can basically write off another season.

    I wasn't replying to you about this year's 1st.

I don't think a 1st and two 2nds is warranted for this player, even with retention. If it is, then I think someone else should pay it, not the Kings. They've already been without a 1st for two seasons in a row, and they've already traded their 2nd for this summer. That means they wouldn't have a 1st round pick for 3 out of 4 years and no 2nd round pick for 3 consecutive years.

As I said above, that's too big of a price to a pay for the Kings. Some other team out there might pay it though.

Depends what he does in free agency tbh. Loading up on picks and going crazy in free agency could work
