Offseason Moves

Created by: StDetroitBlueWings
Team: 2024-25 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 12, 2024
Published: Mar. 12, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Stephenson slightly overpaid to come here on a 2 year stopgap before Dvorsky is ready
Following offseason (2025) there is more flexibility with these NTC so should free up more space the following year. Opens up opportunity to trade Stephenson before he goes to UFA.

No real opportunity to sign a d-man so this d-core stays another year unfortunately. Can address defense via trade or a few signings (quite a few options the following year but time will tell who makes it to FA)

Bolduc starts in the minors (unless he impresses down the stretch). Dean as well

Don't think the Blues would be too active during free agency due to the anchoring contracts on the back end. A 2C would be an ideal add. Aside from that, trying to flip players to get younger (ex. Saad for JGP, more expensive player but getting young change of scenery player as well)

Trades
1.
STL
  1. Broberg, Philip [RFA Rights]
EDM
  1. 2024 3rd round pick (STL)
Additional Details:
This or an offer sheet (still would be a third anyway)
2.
STL
  1. 2024 3rd round pick (ARI)
Additional Details:
Not sure value. Debated on Florida 2nd instead. Somewhere around pick 60-70 sounds fair, may even be too low
ARI
  1. Perunovich, Scott [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Hate to see him go... but dam Krug and Leddy taking the spot. If he wants to stay on a cheap 1 year prove it, he can resign and revert the trade. If not, trade for something
3.
STL
  1. Pageau, Jean-Gabriel
  2. Wahlstrom, Oliver [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Does NYI like this move? Seems like they'd like to get out of the JGP contract and add at wing? Just my assumption looking at the roster and that top line of all centers. Allows them to spread that out a bit
NYI
  1. Saad, Brandon
Additional Details:
Not sure on the value. Add any picks deemed necessary for this (not sure who adds, if any)
4.
STL
  1. 2024 1st round pick (TOR)
Additional Details:

  1. 2024 2nd round pick (STL)

figured. was hoping to overpay to get two years. Then he is still in his prime at the time of his next contract with the cap going up a good amount
What you thinking he signs for?

Pretty sure Broberg won't be eligible for an offersheet, though I may be wrong on that. That aside, EDM isn't trading him for a 3rd.

Not sure if he is or not. Just tried figuring that out but couldn't find anything. If he is, I'd offer a 1 year $2mil which would be a third round compensation. If not, could send Perunovich instead plus like a 5th or something. Not sure what it would take for a deal there since EDM already has their left side under contract (pending trades) and Broberg may not want to stay if he isn't getting that playing time

I'd probably pass. Barzal is effectively just a winger at this point, he uses the space up the middle while in play but his faceoffs are sub-par so I prefer him lining up as a wing. I also may be higher on Pageau than others. His offensive game seems to have taken a dip but his defensive game and ability in the faceoff circle as still as solid as ever, making him a great PK piece and dzone faceoff guy

Understood. Saad is a great PK guy as well fwiw. Thought I've seen some Islander fans desperate to dump JGP so thought he'd be a decent 3C and can push Hayes elsewhere

I think a lot of Isles fans have been dumping him for cap space. Like sending him and a 2nd or a 3rd somewhere just to open up 5m in space

I think you will see some change either in the summer with the oilers d to make room for broberg. kulak will either become the 7th or kulak will be traded at that point

Not sure if he'd be a long term option there. Just someone I wouldn't mind seeing alongside Parayko and just see how they play. Ideally he'd be a second pair d. And it's just tough to have a spot for Scotty with Krug in the lineup. Maybe a buyout/trade of Krug to keep Scotty then i'm all for it. Then get rid of Leddy and have a left side lineup of "new name", Broberg, ScottyP

I think the blues should keep scotty, again this is his "rookie" year basically. I expect next year he will be much much better

Agreed. Just tough to place him in this lineup in general. This Krug contract is such a hinderance

I think scotty will differentiate himself from krug by the end of the year, yes theyre both offensive defenseman but theres an aspect to scottys game that makes him MORE than krug... just cant place my finger on what it is yet.

He's got better skating imo. He can straddle the line and open up lanes a lot better. Kind of reminds me of Makar in a way, just not to that level. I think he's got a lot of potential and if he can keep getting pucks through, he will be solid. I'm still surprised he hasn't scored a goal yet, but I'm pretty sure he's hit the post quite a few times too

As far as I can see Broberg would be a group 2 RFA, meaning he is eligible for an offer sheet.

I don't see Holland trading him for just a 3rd either though. He's more likely to move Kulak in the offseason to make room for him... but then Holland might retire after the playoffs this spring so he may not be the one making the moves.

Yeah I wasn't able to see anything saying he wasn't eligible so maybe he is. And a third seems fairly cheap for sure, but I just did the equivalent of what the offer sheet value would be.

I'm just not sure what the value would be for him if Edmonton kept the same d-core. If they move someone out, I can see them raising the price. Wish Army jumped on him at the deadline unless it was too high of an ask
