Maybe, it was a bad idea to have let Dubas invest half the cap to 4 players?! Who would have thunk that only having 40 mil to fill out 19 roster spots would be a problem? Building a playoff team requires balance through the lineup, not a top heavy team with a bunch of scrubs or young guys trying to break into the league filling 19 other spots. BTW, what you have is only slightly better than what Dubas built.

Hildeby is coming up after 24-25 season so why would they sign Sammy to any term? McCabe and Benoit play bigger than they are but don't standup to Florida big wingers. Pesce isn't the d-man the leafs need and Rielly, Lilly and Nielema are non-physical undersized d-men. 24-25 is going to be a wash. This team has big decisions when JT and Marner come off the books. They will realize that Nylander signing might have been a very bad decision. Losing Marner will be huge if the cap hasn't jump to at least 93M.

Would have been interesting if the Leaf had been "sellers" instead of "buyers" this season. Instead of trading futures away, traded Nylander, Bertuzzi, Domi, Samsonov, for futures. Leafs would have recaptured their draft picks Dubas had foolishly traded away, and had an additional 11.5m to replace Nylander this summer.
