Giroux is good, I'm sure, but this is an overpayment.

How about Pacioretty and Plek (3M retained) for Giroux and Read (cap-dump negative value)? I ran the numbers, we'd be swallowing 4.4M more cap, and that checks out okay.

Not interested in Pacioretty. Leave the structure of the deal above together and remove the parts you think are making it an overpayment.

Pass on Galchenyuk. Rather have the 2018 and 2020 1st round pick. The Flyers could wait until 2021 for the 2nd 1st if need be. 2018 1st is key to this deal structure.

Here is where we stand right now
1. The structure must remain for you
2. 2018 pick is crucial for you
3. 2018 1st round pick is the key overpayment here for me
4. If we swap the 2018 1st pick for 2018 2nd round pick, then I'd be okay with this.
5. I notice you don't need any salary retaining, but I'd be glad to retain half of Plekanec's contract if you have any other transactions in mind.

MTL Gives:
Plekanec
Gallagher
Juulsen
Conditional 2018 2nd round pick (if Giroux notches under 55pts, then the lower of Chicago's or MTL's 2nd round pick; if notches above 55pts, then higher of CHI's or MTL's 2nd round pick)
2019 or 2020 1st round pick (whichever of the two you prefer)

Honestly if you want that 2018 first round pick, you have to remove the other pick, 'cause you and I know that draft is deep and even playoff contenders like us can get something good.

Montreal Gives:
Plekanec
Gallagher
2018 First Round Pick
2021 First Round Pick

Flyers Give:
Giroux
Montreal's 7th Rd Pick

You can keep Juulsen and make it a 2021 first since you are a playoff contender.

Removing Juulsen does make things more bearable. I can consider this trade, though I'd have to think long and hard if I want to make such a sacrifice.

Hopefully Bergevin is thinking short and soft and accepts the original deal.
