He has already said he is resigning this summer. The entire scenario is fiction in the heads of Canadian media.

Link?

If so, that's great for him and PIT! I wonder if he made those comments before his comments at trade deadline. It wouldn't surprise me that Crosby is going off the assumption that PIT will be "going for it" every year he's still playing.

A Sid the Kid trade would be similar to the Value of the Gretzky Trade to the Blues

Jesse Ylonen, Joel Armia, Lias Andersson, 1st rd pick and 5th Rd pick

What you propose is a HUGE OVERPAY!!

Read both. Literally neither of those articles has Crosby saying that he's for sure signing an extension. In the Athletic article it even specifically states Crosby saying "I'm not even thinking about extensions."

He mentions that when asked if he'd want to spend his entire career in PIT he said “Yeah, I’ve said that forever. But right now I’m trying to focus on getting into the playoffs.”

I don't think anyone doubts Crosby would rather stay in PIT forever, and it's by far the most likely situation. Just hope Dubas doesn't muck it up. Because my Kane comparison is still a realistic situation. Kane said the offseason prior to his last with CHI that he wanted to stay there for his whole career, but both him and Toews had zero interest in rebuilding.

Hilarious if you think that’s ever happening or that Sid is equal to Wayne when he was a Blue. That was a done for Wayne. Sid is much better at 36 than Wayne was at 36.

Malkin and Letang were extended 2 summers ago with NMC mostly at the request of Crosby. He isn’t going anywhere.

https://www.hockeyfeed.com/nhl-news/sidney-crosby-s-agent-pat-brisson-reveals-what-his-client-wants-in-next-contract

Brisson already stated that one of the conditions of a crosby extension was the ability to contend during the extension. Given their basically eliminated from the playoffs this year, have no impactful youth on the roster (puustinen at 13 points is the highest scoring player who will be 25 or younger next season), one of the worst prospect pools in the league, and could theoretically lose their 1st this year is they move up 2 spots. That or they lose their 2025 pick which likely is top 10 as well. Oh and barely any cap space for a meaninful move.

Does that sound like contention?

That was with the intent of competing for a cup, not rebuilding.

I asked for proof of where Crosby said he's signing an extension this offseason. and what you sent me literally has him saying "I'm not even thinking about extensions." lol

Again, I think everyone will agree the most likely situation is Crosby extends. No one is debating you there. But to suggest it's 100% going to happen is just naive...

I’ll take our Athletic reporter who talks to him and the team on a regular basis over someone spinning crap with no connections to the team.

Is this a joke? Wayne was still a 90 - 100 point player at that age

Nothing is naive. This ownership group will make him the highest a paid player in the league before they send him away for junk or let him become a UFA

I shouldn’t have said “done for” but he was clearly at the end. Crosby is a top 6 C in the NHL right now at nearly 37.

Did you read the article? Did you not see two Pens insiders both say they are going to work out a deal? Did you not see them both say the team is not tearing it down? Malkin and Letang aren’t going anywhere. Therefore, Sid has no reason to leave. There’s nothing that suggests he would want to leave. Our team isn’t good and he’s ticked that everything sucks at the moment. No one expected Jake to resign here so he got traded. That has zero impact on Sid. He cares about 71 and 58 who are still here.

6 months ago I would have agreed on it being the most likely scenario but now not so much. Brisson has already been public about the conditions of a crosby extension and the team realistically cant meet them. The team sucks WITH crosby theres nothing meaningful coming in the next 2-3 years from the pool that isnt offset by the decline in the aging core(that has little trade flexibility).

He has no reason to leave. 71 and 58 stayed and he will stay as he asked them to do. Those three are not breaking up the band because some people with zero connections to the team made up nonsense on TSN.

Did you not read SIDNEY CROSBY' REPRESENTATION contradicting it. I will believe a players AGENT over a "insider"

Nothing said by Brisson indicates he wants to leave lol. You people up there are drunk on Molson because TSN spun one quote out of context.

He posted that on March 7th... Literally the next day he writes this article.

https://theathletic.com/5327446/2024/03/08/penguins-dubas-trade-deadline/?utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=nhltw&source=nhltw

"Dubas spoke Friday like a man who realizes his vision for the Penguins could clash with the wishes of Cup holdovers. That dichotomy was probably inevitable, but it will be difficult for even the likes of Crosby, Malkin and Sullivan to argue against trying something new" - Rob Rossi
Yeah, everything is sunshine and daisy's, who wouldn't want to sign an extension, right?

If Crosby can get the kind of contract you're suggesting from PIT's ownership, good on him. Would be a terrible move on Dubas' part, but it's not the first time he's given his star players more than he should *wink* *wink*.

Meh... Brisson is a drama queen. Look at the PLD bs he pulled.

I'd put Crosby re-signing with PIT at 95%... The other 5% is Dubas just royally screwing up. It could happen, Dubas has never screwed up before, right?! (yes, that's sarcasm).

Brisson does a lot of talking to get the most for his clients. Nothing he said though has changed. We could sign a couple short term UFAs and “go for it” one more time if that makes 87 happy. We won’t go anywhere but it’s a small price to pay.

He has said he is signing an extension this summer. That’s iron clad.

not disputing this, just saying he would be traded before he hits the open market if he were to refuse to sign an extension
