I'm still baffled PLD managed to get 8.5 with a NMC. I'm glad he's not in Winnipeg anymore, but I feel bad for Kings fans. They don't deserve this situation.

They should have offered him the same deal that Troy Terry signed 7 years, $49 million. Reality is he is probably overpaid compared to what he would have gotten in the market by about 1.5m AAV per year. In terms of cap considerations, that overpayment is worth about mid first round pick when I look at Puckpedia’s cap to draft pick converter.

I’d rather sign Elias Lindholm or Jake DeBrusk while trading Ullmark for draft capital. If a trade for significant enough draft capital isn’t available, keep him and see if he’ll sign for a discount the following year to stay in Boston. It’s pretty obvious that the goalie tandem works or Boston wouldn’t own the best record in the NHL the past two years.

That said, a PLD for Ullmark deal seems close enough in value as long as the Kings supplement with a pick and potentially a prospect for me to discount it outright.
