Quick path to ruin the development of your young players. Thrun, Gushchin, Shakir not getting spots? putting Tatar OVER Eklund. Demoting Granlund to the third line?

I just don't understand any of this. I'm all for going after a couple high impact Free agents, but only for short term deals and not if their in the way of developing players who SHOULD be in the NHL. Pesce and Turbo are the only to FAs that the Sharks should consider here. And Cooch may be LTIRetired

Honestly don't know Thrun, Gushchin, Shakir trajectories or development, but Sharks need internal competition for these guys to be successful and not presume they just are in the nhl because there is nobody else.

While that's true, it would be crazy to give out long term to guys who would be in severe decline at high $ when SJ's beginning to be competitive again. They should be doing 1-3 year contracts at 1.5-1.75x their market value for UFA's like these. Get a couple vets like Henrique or Tanev (or specifically ones who might want a quick payday and dont care about a cup rn) on a 6,7m year deal for a year or two.

Thrun has already earned his spot, he's played most of this year and has developed really well, so makes no sense to just send him back to the AHL. Shakir and Gushchin have both gotten games in the NHL and have looked incredibly poised and are 100% ready.

Sharks have had that internal competition the last few years and Thrun originally got sent down purely because there were to many Waiver eligible d-men. Similar to Robertson in TOR, I'm all about internal competition, but I don't want to see deserving young players lose their spot because of a numbers game. I like Turbo and Pesce as I mentioned, but adding Hanifin, Chatfield, Tatar, Amadio, and Jones just doesn't make sense when you consider there's guys ready to make that jump AND the fact that those guys won't even be high level players by the time the Sharks are competitive again

I don’t see those FA signings. If you wanted good older players then you keep Hertl. They are going young (players less than 25). They have vets for the younger players. They want trade bait for 2025 deadline and assets to take salary dumps.

SJ not shopping in the UFA market. it will be mid range cap dumps on 1 to 2 yrs terms with picks coming with them for FC or low picks. Probably a couple of Wingers, a Center and maybe a RD. I could see Dvorak, Johansen, Rakell, R. Smith, Holl all ebing candidates to move to SJ with attached high picks
