Kings aren't retaining 1.5m for 7yrs and also paying to get rid of the guy. I continue to find it funny that all these people trade for PLD and expect the Kings to pay some ridiculous price to get rid of him only to then throw him in their top 6. If he's going into anyone's top 6 he's got value right? Which raises the question, if he's going into your top 6 that means you think he's a good enough player to play there why would a team pay someone to take a player who that team values enough to play in their top 6?

While I think the money retained is a stupid risk for Blake to take, I do think the notion that Dubois isn't' a huge risk to most teams as being equally foolish. PIT is looking at a LONG rebuild so taking a risk on a player that might be a horrible contract is worth the risk/reward profile. A truly competitive team likely won't have the same risk tolerance. If Dubois were effective then great they milk a few more productive years out of the core. If not it's no big deal as they will be rebuilding so having a horrific contract won't stop them from a rebuild. Something like Rakell or more likely Smith at full cap hit for Dubois is probably a consideration for Dubas. Not sure on how the rest of the package would be, but if Blake is trying to move him already as was rumored in the Ullmark deal, then he must have at least some willingness to reverse course with Dubois. I never really understood why LAK were interested in the first place and paying him that much to be 3C is a poor cap allocation. Especially given he hasn't been better than an average 3C.

To all the people who think that the Kings are going to pay some Never-Never-Land price to dump Pierre-Luc DuBois: Get over it. It isn't happening, just as Montreal isn't going to pay an exorbitant price to get rid of Josh Anderson or Brendan Gallagher or Edmonton is going to pay an exorbitant price to dump Jack Campbell. The Kings have too much invested in him to throw that investment away when it's at its lowest value point.

Blake brought in PLD to be the 2C (hoping for prime Jeff Carter type of fit) with Danault being the 3C, clearly PLD has not lived up to expectations so far. Personally idk what Blake saw in the guy to pay so much for him but then again I lost faith in Kempe before he blew up and was starting to lose faith in Byfield before this season and I was clearly wrong about both of them. Outside of Fiala and Talbot I cant think of any trades or signings the Kings have made that stepped in and made an immediate impact on the team so maybe this was just another Blake far sight signing. But all that besides the point Blake has invested far too much into PLD to pay some crazy price to ship him out even with him not living up to expectation.

I definitely agree he's invested a lot. Though the multiple insiders reporting that he was being shopped to Boston makes me skeptical that Blake is not willing to trade him on a proper return for the organization. Now what that proper return is I don't know. Ullmark is obviously a major upside potential difference maker compared to this offer. It is also very odd that Dubois has no trade protection is in his first year of his contract. Leading me to believe that Blake at least had some idea that it might not be a good fit and leave maneuver room out of the long-term deal if needed.
