Kyle and Friends
Not sure if it’s an option, but if it is, that poses an interesting scenario. Even if it’s not an option, it’s worth debating if the Pens would be better off with their 2024 or 2025 1st rounder.
A lot of factors would go into the decision, including the draft pools (2025 is supposed to be a stronger class). It also depends on the plan going forward (rebuild versus retool and still try to remain competitive, which seems to be the preferred option with Crosby still performing at an elite level, in which case, the Pens would likely bet on their improved status in the standings next season resulting in a lower pick).

I was loading up on the 2025 picks because it’s supposed to be a deeper draft pool

Not sensitive, just logical, but I’m talking to a Habs fan, so 😬
Carter isn’t agreeing to go to Montreal.
Pens could trade Eller directly to Colorado in a package deal including Johansen, but Pens will be receiving draft capital, not trading it away for a cap dump.

Penguins don’t need a sixth 30+ center in their line-up when their clearly stated goal is to get younger, and even if they did, they’d be receiving the draft capital for the cap dump, not trading it away. Wrong player, wrong team, wrong value, no deal.

Purgatory
That’s good background info on the Buckley connection I admittedly was unaware of. The trade doesn’t have to be with LA, and the Pens may trade Ned instead of Jarry, but I do think one of the two goalies will be traded by the Pens sooner than later. Pens just called up Hellberg (wish they’d give Blomquist a shot) with no apparent injuries…

PENS DEADLINE 2024
I don’t think the Pens need to be trading away so many future assets to beef up their D that has already been solid this season.

Classic ACGM post from a Leafs fan.
Anaheim and Nashville block your number, and Minnesota just laughs you off the phone.
Dubas probably makes this deal for another Greyhound though…

Agreed, and I’ve made a few adjustments with the picks. Still not sure Ottawa or Smith accept, but I’d love to see Geno with Tarasenko.

I don’t think so either. As I said in the description, this is all only in the hypothetical situation Crosby changes his mind and decides to take a run at the Cup with Nate.

Not mad at Jarry or Ned, think they’ve both done their part in most of the games, win or lose. The goalie switch in the line-up was not intended, just didn’t notice it before I posted.

Great stats (although I think they have 7 PPG, still terrible), and I don’t disagree with anything you’ve said.
Who can help their PP? A new player? A new coach/game plan?

Now or never
After watching 78/82 Penguins games last season, I legit don’t think he’s good enough to play in the league anymore…at least not on the Penguins. Not in the starting line-up, and when they have injuries, they should give the young guys in WB a chance. His NMC doesn’t even allow the Penguins to move him to the minors. And that’s how the conversation would start. I’m not suggesting they should threaten to bench him just to get him to waive his NMC. I’m saying he might agree to waive to get traded to a team willing to give him a chance to play if he doesn’t make the Penguins line-up…or if he decides to retire, he might waive first as a favor to the Penguins to allow them to dump his salary for picks/prospects before he retires pre-season.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HulkVader</b></div><div>I’m betting the package Dubas proposed for Karlsson isn’t even that robust. Minnesota has enough cap space to sign Addison and they’re finished. They are not taking Petry, ffs. Carter owes no one any favors except MoRon Hextall for singing him to that albatross of a deal. And he isn’t retiring. I doubt you could get more than a 7th for DeSmith. And Buffalo’s goaltending is set. Terrible. 🤣</div></div>
Pens should accept a 7th from any team for DeSmith.
You’re right, Carter doesn’t owe the Penguins any favors…poor choice of words. But I do think he may retire and/or accept a trade if Dubas tells him he’ll otherwise be a healthy scratch all year.

If a third team (I proposed Anaheim in this post) retains on Petry, and if the Pens take on Fleury’s contract, the cap difference for the Wild is only -$750,000. Granted, the Wild may need to make another trade for a back-up goalie to be cap compliant. Anaheim, SJ, and Buffalo are comfortably under the cap.

I agree Tarasenko will likely sign a 1-year deal due to the expected cap, but like the idea of pairing him with Geno.
Admit I hadn’t realized Dumba had declined quite so much.
