I don't see the value for Toronto or Edmonton
Curious to know if what Vancouver and Carolina think about those swaps
All the other trades looks like the right value

Those are waiver wire pick ups. Leafs would just hold onto Robertson. But Pens can have Timmins for future considerations.

I mentioned this in another thread but didn't get any replies, so I'm going to copy and paste the content of that post here.

I do somewhat wonder about if the Pens defer the pick. The phrasing on the trade seemed to be that the Pens would get the option to either give the top 10 2024 1st or defer it to 2025 as opposed to it automatically being deferred.

If the pick is 9th or 10th do the Pens choose to defer it and risk dropping off more next season and pulling a Sharks (giving up the 3rd overall pick which became Tim Stutzle), or do they just give the pick up now? The Pens had an incredibly healthy season (4.1M in cap hit man games lost, 10th lowest in the league. 150 total man games lost) and they're one of the oldest teams in the league. It's not unreasonable to see a scenario where the one or more of the "big 4" (they seem to be counting EK65 in that now) miss a good chunk of time with injury considering the youngest of them will be 34 and already has an extensive injury history.

Obviously if they somehow end up with a top 5 or so pick, whether from winning the lottery or just completely falling off a cliff they'll defer, but I'm curious what the threshold for them actually choosing to defer is.

I'm not sure the other teams will agree to these trades, but as a Pens fan, I don't think it's bad.

For TOR it looks like POJ for Robertson. The rest is just waivers wire stuff.
For EDM they are swapping out defensemen. It's a hockey trade change of scene for both players. Not a horrible idea to be honest.

I think the CAR trade is the most skeptical. Not sure how that goes for CAR. But even stating that, Smith can be dealt for a 2nd and this still looks good.

Not sure if it’s an option, but if it is, that poses an interesting scenario. Even if it’s not an option, it’s worth debating if the Pens would be better off with their 2024 or 2025 1st rounder.
A lot of factors would go into the decision, including the draft pools (2025 is supposed to be a stronger class). It also depends on the plan going forward (rebuild versus retool and still try to remain competitive, which seems to be the preferred option with Crosby still performing at an elite level, in which case, the Pens would likely bet on their improved status in the standings next season resulting in a lower pick).

I think every team declines these except for Vegas.
