Description
Obviously Bunting is not Jake Guentzel, but he does bring a style that the penguins have missed since having Patrick Hornqvist, and that's worth it's weight in Gold IMO.

Drew O'Connor and Valtteri Puustinen have really grown into their shoes this season and I think that with an equally young/quick 3C it could form a very good line.

That question becomes do either Sam Poulin or Vasili Ponomarev posses that ability? If not, I think that's one place a trade comes in during the summer to really try and find a young 3C candidate.

I know Lars Eller is older, but he's absolutely proved his worth this season and IMO is someone that should stay.

I think as most have said Smith will get traded, one year left on his deal and could still push for 40pts this season. He straight up just isn't a fit on the penguins, but I think in the right system (like Vegas) he would be a valuable piece for a playoff push.

Rakell is someone else that I think the penguins could try and move in the summer, i'm not sure who the realistic replacement there would be, but I think it could be a possibility.

I'm truly not sure where you look to replace Guentzel. Obviously 40 goal guys don't grow on trees. The UFA options aren't plenty, and I'm not sure where you can look for trades so i'd be open and curious to hear various thoughts.

I think trading to Lundell could be in the books, FLA to me seems like they will be extremely cash strapped *assuming* that Montour and Reinhart both get their paydays. I think a third with DOC and Puusty could be a really solid line.

Chatfield and Skjei would be huge upgrades to the blue line, I'm sure CAR will make a move to re-sign at least one of them, but they do have a lot of UFA and RFAs to get locked in so naturally someone will lose out.

  1. 2025 3rd round pick (BOS)
BOS
  1. Smith, Reilly
Additional Details:
It doesn't necessarily need to be Boston, but this would be a team that I could see being a very strong fit for Smith.

Like I noted in my description I do think he will get moved.
2.
PIT
  1. Lundell, Anton [RFA Rights]
FLA
  1. Lucius, Cruz [Reserve List]
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (PHI)
Additional Details:
Florida fans, I know you'll probably come down swift here, but I just genuinely wonder if they'll have room to sign Lundell. $21.7M in cap space as things stand currently, and assuming they sign Reinhart and Montour that should wipe out at the very least $15M of that. I know they could move other guys to create extra space, but they resigned Luostarinen, they're not going to move Verhaeghe or any of the big guys. Maybe they move Bennett, EROD would be more likely, but again assuming Reinhart and Montour get their paydays I just feel like FLA will be cash strapped to fill out a roster and someone like Lundell will be out.

i like this although i imagine the top 6 will begin to regress sooner rather than later but this is a conservative way of not blowing everything up and giving our vets a year or 2 to go after their final cup

Lundell would take more to get. Plus he’s more valuable to keep around than montour and if Reinhart takes more than 8.5 he’s not gonna get resigned.

I think you should visit Reilly Smith trades after the first tranche of free agency is done. I think there will be value in his expiring contract

I'd disagree on that if the panthers goal is to win now (which I would assume it is given the rest of their contracts) resigning both Montour and Reinhart will be crucial for that.

Lundell is also a huge part of this team while center depth is more important than a winger who’s had one great season and few good seasons who’s not worth a huge contract. Montour same thing. Hes been really good in Florida but he hasn’t been last season good but if he gets a forsling type contract id be okay with that signing.
