Yeah heaven forbid Detroit acquires a player like Rust and improves their top 6.
And dumps a 3.4 mil boat anchor Holl.
But having a 35 year old Kane is fine. 🙄
Maybe any player over 30 years old should be banned from playing in the NHL?
Because none of them can be good players? 🙄
Must have 23 players under 30 at all times.
Or all playing on ELCs.
Wouldn't want to wreck a team's Cap going forward.
There a difference in signing players and trading for players.
A few years ago, Yzerman said he didn't want to acquire players older than 26. Other than Petry that has been held true for trades. Petry was 'cheap' and filled a void in the roster.
If his contract had two less years I would be more for it. It's the length of the deal that is the issue for me. He could very well be a boat anchor in a couple years, do you want that in the books when this team is trying to be competitive? It seems to be a more common theme these days with players slowing down in the mid thirties. Could compare him to Perron right now. They are pretty comparable players as far as I'm concerned.
3.4M boat anchor Holl only has two years left. We could easily wait out his deal or deal with it another way.

This is a dumb comment, I get players are still good in their thirties but how many are still effective 34+? Quite a few can't keep up to the pace of the game at that point.
Also with Rust, he plays mostly with Crosby, will he put up the same numbers with Compher? I know he is an effective two way player but you can find those players for cheaper.
