He could very possibly but has also struggled quite a bit this year which can hurt his overall value. That deal is higher than his current deal and would depend on the cap of the Knights whom seem to love their big swings and that of other teams after they get their fish. Stephenson in previous years could have trouble due to the cap. This year with the increase, he has a better chance to actually get paid more but the cap era has always led to players signing for less than the envisioned. If not Stephenson, we use the cap space for another player similar willing to accept around the 3 million like O'Reilly etc ...

When he signed his current deal he had never broke 20 points. Now he is coming off 3 straight 50 point (Maybe even 60 pt) seasons with at least one incredible playoff run in there. He is also good in the faceoff circle and very defensively responsible. If he takes a contract anywhere near that number it will certainly not be on a one year deal.

He is also with a big minus this year on the (yes fairly unreliable stat) +/- but for a team with the defense and goaltending Vegas has, you would expect it to be better. All I am saying is that this year has not helped his value and with Vegas trading for Hertl, his value while should be higher may not be.

I am admitting that this deal could be an underpay by a couple million for him but could also be on the par depending on the actual value as in a cap era can be unpredictable for certain players.

Pens take Timmins but probably don't want Kampf. They already have too many 30+ years old bottom 6 guys they need to get rid of.

You do have a point but Dubas also has a love for his ex players and could look at Kampf. The main problem with Dubas is his need for a first big splash ie Tavares and Karlsson and the love for former players he knows of. Some of his draft picks and signings are starting to pay off with the Leafs showing he can be a good judge of talent and signings. Hopefully he does as he says and looks to get the pens younger versus going for a guy like Kampf. As a Leafs fan, Kampf has his advantages but I do think he is overpaid hence the trade. I can see pens fans thinking the same thing little overpaid for a guy on the upper age curve.

As previously pointed. I can see all scenarios. I can see a team signing him for 6 million and regretting it as a main reason for his production was with the Knights and being he misfits. This year while still good hasn't been as good. I can see a team signing him 6 million and loving it with him being a great player. I can also see few teams offering him he raise he wants and where a deal like Toronto's gives him one more chance to cash in.

He will be 30 when he signs his next contract. There is no incentive to sign a one year deal. He will sing a 6 million 5 year deal on his next contract.

If he signs a 1 year at 3.5 million what kind of upside does he really get? Even if he hits 60-70 points.

Again in the salary cap world teams will look at everything. O'Reilly does the same production and only sign a little over 3 million. Stephenson has great chemistry with certain players on the Knights and as the Knights changed their players, his defensive stats and offensive stats have hurt a bit this year. Mainly on the defensive.

This is why I can see all scenarios happening. Many thought O'Reilly would sign a 4.5 million plus multi year last year and didn't. At the same time many though klingberg would sign a bare minimum deal but got 4.5 million out of Toronto. The cap makes some players unpredictable and I can see where Stephenson can be one of the players.

That being said, I do admit that I can see some teams signing him for much more, he is a good player deserving of a raise compared to others.

O'Reilly was 2.5 years older when he singed his last contract as to when Stephenson will be signing his. Age played a big factor in what O'Reilly singed for.
