Addressing weaknesses

Initial Creation Date: Mar. 20, 2024

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I think they need better 2 way play, physicality and a stay at home, top 4 RD.

Cates is a solid 3C pivot, Pesce (only 29 is a better option than Dumba/Tanev/etc....), size in a few UFAs, guys like Dakota, Blueger, and MacDermid.

All the while breaking in at least 2 of Ostlund, Savoie, Kulich and Rosen, with a good mix of vets/youth/offense-defense.

And a bunch of guys on 3rd/4th line who could move up lineup in case of injuries.

And still plenty of cap space

Pesce probably gets around $7 or $8 million, and after the season he’s had Luukkonen is definitely getting a lot more money than that. You also never bothered to resign Krebs, or even trade him.

I actually might want to keep Joker, Pesce and Jokers numbers aren't that far off from each other and Joker seems to be getting better. Him and Power have been solid together. And I doubt Pesce signs for that in Buffalo. Like the Blueger and Joshua signings

We have a positive goal differential and have greatly improved our PK and overall goals against.

We simply have not scored goals, particularly on the power play.

Very true, but injuries to Quinn and meshing hasnt worked too well.

Forgot about Krebs so went with Krebs instead of Blueger, although one of Dakota/Blueger is still a need.

Cates had a bad injury and hasnt scored much this year, but really its about the type of player.

Looking at the above, theres at least 3 LW, 3 RW, 3C who can put up pts and guys who can move up and down lineup as needed, with guys like Cates/Greenway/Dakota providing some physicality and 2 way play and mentor the newest young guys.

Pesce (while maybe underpaid, theres plenty of cap left), Clifton and MacDermis (8th dman) are there to clear crease and allow Byram/Power and Dahlin to rush the puck, with Johnson as a high quality 7th.

Forgot about Krebs, which means 1 of Dakota/Blueger isnt needed, although 1 of them is key. Theres still 7mil left, so even with raising Pesce to 6mil and UPL (still a RFA) to 2.5mil, still 5mil in cap space

Point taken, but I think they really need an above average veteran that is a stay at home/crease clearer. Maybe Jokiharju becomes that, but IMO hes more of a tweener type (not quite a puck rusher/not a crease clearer).

But Pesce really isn't that either, atleast the Physical part.

Guys are developing 2 way games. Quinn, Krebs, Benson, cozens have all been fixtures on the PK.

I go back and forth between big changes and stay the course. Right now I am largely stay the course (Byram trade has a big role in that). We do need to add a center and upgrade the 4th line

Yeah, I just dont see the above as massive changes, basically a 3C/4C, a top 4 RD, and a 3rd/4th line physical winger

I think our D is all set for next year. Only question is if jokihajru is moved and Ryan Johnson is back up

I think most of what you did here is pretty reasonable
Biggest thing i think u are “off” on is the UPL contract
That’ll be at least double what u gave him here, maybe triple
And it’ll be for multiple seasons

Nice job overall though
Especially for not being a Sabres fan

I think u have the right ideas here

Not to many D left that actually clear the Crease or play that type of game. Probably need a Soucy, Trouba, Hakanpaa, Zub, Borgen type for that. Hard to come by, just like Top pair RD
