Description

UFA deals are those crazy ones the Leafs do where the salary is bonus and up front...meaning they can buy out guys or bury them later in the contracts as they will probably be rebuilding or retooling in 5-6 years

Reaves sticks around and agrees to play some Marlie games or finds another team that wants him, but I think he is done...that look in his eyes (or eye) after Deslauriers beat him

Notice there are picks and cap space galore so Tree can go wild at TDL 2025 if thats what is appropriate or they can start to refill the cupboards

More likely scenario is he is just traded straight up for draft assets and a lesser RW but I can't think of one...

Caps for sure accept, and they do have a lot of Cap space lol theyve got nearly 20m this summer. Toronto would be stupid to trade away Marner though IMO. Matthews plays F3 in the O-zone usually and without his set up man I doubt he scores 60+ goals

Apologies, so I know its a whacky deal but whats the feeling...would they want to get some younger contracts...I mean if they dealt Weegar and Kadri to Toronto they could sign some younger guys with that cap right? And Tavares in that case could stay on till the TDL or be traded for some younger guys.

Exactly...you take the cap hit big time but thats fine...no one cares in Leafland if they find the promised land or anything close...and as I said by that time its time for a retool at least

Finally some folks says yes to Marner. What do you think the Caps do, wait to extend till around TDL 2025 or till they know they are in the playoffs...or just extend right away?

Honestly I think Ovi can get to 1000 with Marner on the wing....ok 900 for sure...that would be such a story...imagine the media attention...especially when he is like 10 goals away from Gretzky??? And Marner would love to be Ovi's wing man for sure...who is the C?

To be clear I think Marner is a great player but to give him say 13 million will not allow for a proper contending calibre bottom 6 or D or G. I think that point has been exhausted on here....but to contradict your feeble points...

Cups with Marner = 0
Cup final appearances without Marner or since expansion = 0

And I say he waives gladly to be in the spotlight with Ovi as he becomes the all time goals leader???

Ahh so in two years...I do agree with that and that's most likely always been the plan or Shanaplan...I actually think this team will be a force in 2025-26...but I will never be convinced that having those 3 at those prices in the lineup is whats best...2 yes but 3 nope
