Caps Next Season

Created by: Logicalicesports
Team: 2024-25 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 22, 2024
Published: Mar. 22, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Caps are stockpiling some pretty solid prospects: Chesley, Cristall, Funk, Suzdalev, Gucciardi, Gibson, Stevenson.

The area they need help going forward in the draft will be with Right Wing and Center prospects. Most so Right Wingers, Most of the guys can play either side, but it would be nice to get some natural Right Wingers to help get this team into the next era like what we did with Leonard.

Never hurts to select more defenseman though, Outside of Chesley and Iorio (Maybe Gucciardi) the prospect pool there could be improved.

Might need another winger signed in FA, I am expecting it will be tough for Oshie to stay healthy for an entire season at this point.

Honestly, Talbot and Rittich have both been better than Kuemper, and I don't know if a change of scenery will fix some of the core issues with Kuemper. Don't think the Kings will target Kuemper given his contract, especially when it seems they don't necessarily need a big name goalie to be successful.

I expect Oshie will retire at the end of this year.

This team above would probably be the best thing for the organization in the future, but...
I think the Caps should try to compete this upcoming offseason - this is probably the last season that Ovi could get one (cap rising, young guys developing nicely, Kuzy/Backy/Oshie off the books). I'd like them to go after a top 6 winger (ex. Reinhart) and then upgrade the defense (either a true top 4 RHD or a #1 LHD). I don't see Sandin / Fehevary as a true #1 LHD and the right side needs to be reevaluated with the disappointing seasons from Carlson, Jensen, and somewhat TVR (at times).

Yeah, even retaining half the Kings current goaltending tandem is cheaper and performing better. That's 3 more years on a goalie already in his mid-30s. The one thing Blake did well this season is find a cheap goalie tandem who are excelling.
