Bringing Youth Into The AHL And NHL

Created by: Fluxcc
Team: 2024-25 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 23, 2024
Published: Mar. 23, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
- Bringing in a lot of youth to the AHL, while still keeping some vets to help mentor the kids. This is preparing the kids for coming to the NHL when we start our full rebuild after the core retires.

- Internally promoting several youth to the NHL roster to achieve Dubas' goal of getting younger.

- I don't think we can get out from under Graves' contract, so we keep him and hope he has a bounce back year, though that may just be wishful thinking.

- Keep our 2024 top-10 protected 1st and draft Zeev Buium or Zayne Parekh, send our 2025 1st to San Jose.

- Sign NCAA free agent Collin Graf to a maximum ELC. If Acciari is not performing effectively by December, trade him, and bring Graf up to the NHL.

- Sign Murashov to an ELC for the WBS Penguins to start getting NA pro experience.

- Sign Yager to an ELC to start getting experience in our system in WBS, comes to NHL in 2025/2026 season.

- Sign Ilyin to an ELC to start getting NA pro experience and see what he really can do.

- Might be a pipedream, but bring Guentzel back at 10.5M AAV for 5 years.

- Bring in Zadorov to be a shutdown guy with Letang.

Rakell and Smith contracts are fine. No need to retain unless its to juice the return...

Pens should have moved Rakell after last year.
The problem isn't the player, he's on a slowing Malkin's line. It's dragging him down.
What they should really do is play him with Sid, let his number come back in line, and then trade him out.
That way they can really get to making the team younger.

Doubt that very much. If I'm another GM I see two 30+ year olds that are likely in age decline and especially with Rakell, not worth their contracts. Smith maybe for something minimal. But the fact he wasn't traded at the deadline tells me the offers must not have been that strong.

We are definitely regressing and the possibility is there we'd get an even better pick in 2025, but there are some major studs in that 8-10th range in this draft. We're going to need an offensive right-shot D when Letang and Karlsson are gone and Zayne Parekh fits that perfectly, Zeev Buium fits the role as well, just on the left-shot and hell we could maybe even get a really high pick if the lottery is in our favor. If we did luck out in the lottery and somehow got Ivan Demidov this draft. That is EXACTLY the kind of exciting, flashy player that the Penguins need for their rebuild.

the penguins won't get close to the top of the draft this year.
They are still financially stable. So the league hasn't hit the panic button yet. But when they realize they are dealing with another franchise that is not soluble and possibly on the verge of moving then things will change. When their revenue is down to the 120-150 mil per year like the rest of the bottom of the league and they start talking about moving again.... then the league will "do something" again.

idk man, from what Ive heard I think the 25 draft is stronger, if you guys keep regressing, you could be giving San Jose a top 5 pick, as much as I would love that I don't think you guys would hahah

Surely the league would never rig a draft lottery to help a struggling team, SURELY. wink

The 2025 draft is deeper and has a lot more centers, but the top-13 of this draft is as strong, if not stronger than the '25 draft. Yes, we would hate to give up a top-5 pick, but I am still hopeful we can maybe turn it around this offseason and have a better year next year, might be wishful thinking though.
