Sharks next season

Description
With the Sharks being eliminated here are a few things I think the Sharks should do for the nextseason.

1. Buy-out Vlasic
He's been a excellent player for the Sharks, but with his heavy contract, his age and the direction the Sharks are going, it's better for everyone to buy him. Vlasic deserves a chance to try to win the Cup.

2. Sign RFA's to short term deals
Besides Bordeleau and maybe Thrun I don't see many of the rfa's being on the Sharks with they'll be ready to compete. But they still need to have players on the ice, so signing them to short deal is a good option. Also they could maybe gain value if they play well enough and the Sharks could flip them.
3. Try to get veteran leadership
Just like the Hawks did last offseason with signing Foligno to surround Bedard. I think Okposo and Martinook could fill the role since they're good veteran and appreciated by their teammates. Couture will also calm the young guys and take out dome pression from them. Even if they overpay for thosr guys, they need to acquire veteran to surround the next wave of Smith and the player they pick this year. Since they have the best odds for Celebrini I pick him to be on this roster. If they're not able to pick them

4. Use cap space to acquire unwanted contract
I did not use it on this roster, because they signed Okposo and Martinook and their roster is complete, but if they don't get them they could use the capspace they have to get some guys and take more picks or prospects to continue their rebuild.

The rebuild is far from done, so they shouldn't worry too much about the roster being bad. They have a good young core coming up with Smith, Bystedl, Musty, Eklund, the pick of this year.

imo this isnt worth it.

Put Smith and Celebrini in the AHL playing 20 minutes a night on a great Barracuda team. Way smarter than throwing them to the wolves in the NHL. Then halfway through call them up.

The Cuda are god awful though. Im not sure thats exactly a better situation and could make players of their caliber upset. They both could carry NHL lines but if we did call both them of up I imagine we would invest more in help for them.

Sharks will be bad again next season so they might keep Pickles for another season and then buy him out the following summer.

It's not like he's blocking any player.

But you may be right.

I won't be surprised if he's bought out this summer.

Don’t buyout Vlasic. You are trying to reach the cap floor and a buyout doubles the term of dead money. That could hurt you in years you are trying to actual make the playoffs.

Don’t bring up any of the big names. Let them stay in juniors/ncaa. 2024-25 needs/ is going to be another rough year.

Take cap dumps that don’t hurt development. Just view Vlasic as a cap dump from Wilson.

I would try to trade Benning, Burroughs, and Smith over the summer if you need roster spots.

Rutta, Strum, Granlund, and any cap dump that improves play are your trade deadline pieces.

We need develop top 6 forwards and top pairing Dman. We look ok in cover the bottom and middle pairing.

We just have to wait and see on Logan. Last report didn’t sound good. He might be IR / LTIR for the rest of his contract.

We must draft well throughout the draft. We have to develop players well. If we fail in that, then this process will never end.

I've thought Emberson's looked good when he's been healthy. He definitely warrants an extension to get another shot to see if he can stay healthy, it won't cost much more than the contract slot (should be less than, or barely over the amount that can be buried in the AHL...if they try to send him down later and he gets claimed it's no different than if they hadn't signed him).
