My plan for next year

Created by: Joxu
Team: 2024-25 Florida Panthers
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 26, 2024
Published: Mar. 26, 2024
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Plan:

-Trade Knight for someone who can make the roster better and clear some cap (and hopefully get some picks for more options at trade deadline)
-Resign Reinhart to an 8-year deal, OEL and Stolarz on shorter term deals.
-Sign Lundell to a bridge deal and start him at 2C with Tkachuk
-Give Samoskevich the chance in the top 6 alongside great players like Tkachuk and Lundell as that's where he can shine
-Give Sourdif the chance to play in the bottom 6 so that he can hopefully replace Bennett as 3C in 2025-2026.
-Sign Chatfield and give him the chance at bigger minutes on a high-risk high reward deal (would be a very Zito-like move)
-Resign reliable depth pieces like Stenlund, Lomberg and Kulikov

Don’t think Knight is worth a 2nd at this point.

Fair enough, do you think it would be fair if it was a third instead?

Yes, but moving him is shortsighted. Bobby is killing it but is also 35+ you need knight to keep this team viable.

True, at the same time Florida's cup window is roughly 5 years and those years are the ones that should be prioritized. With the uncertainty around Knight and whether he can be Florida's next starter I don't know that you can justify wasting 4,5 mil of the cap during the years with their absolute best chance at the cup.
At the same time you are raising a good point about the goaltending after Bob's deal is up and I really just don't know what the right move is there... Stolarz has been amazing as a backup this season and perhaps he could take over after Bob is gone.

He already is in his 30’s and Bob will regress here sooner than later. Goalies typically can’t cary a team playing 65+ regular season games and a full playoff schedule playing in their mid to late 30’s.
This is a conundrum cause Knight also has mental illness that puts his viability as a long term starter in question.

How you guys handle this and how it pans out likely means the difference between fighting for a cup or just to get in the playoffs.

If FLA and Reinhart haven't agreed on a deal yet, it's probably because Reinhart wants to finish his crazy season and try to get more money in negos. I'd say if it was 9M, it would of been already a done deal.

Sounds like another Huberdeau contract.

Knight would be a perfect target for San Jose but I think there’s too much risk involved to send a pick likely in the top 35 for him
