That Hurricanes trade screams like a team about to go through a rebuild selling one of their most important assets... which the Hurricanes are not. The Necas trade will probably either require a young top-6er+ or a young goaltender with a lot of potential+

Or a team that can't sign everyone.

You got a top 4 defensemen and a top 10 pick, and cap space to retain your other forwards and/or add one

It's interesting, and the value is probably fair, but I still think the Canes would rather use Necas in a package to upgrade in the top 6, not sell him for multiple pieces.

Jokiharju isn't a top-4 defenseman on a majority of NHL teams (and wouldn't even currently crack the Hurricanes lineup rn)... while a top-10 pick is nice for sure it just screams seller move. The Hurricanes are probably only going to deal him for a legit upgrade (preferably that's under 25) and the Hurricanes have more than enough quality prospects ready to join the team that losing a piece or two isn't gonna hurt

I don't hate the move for the Coyotes but I would think they would want a roster guy and a first for Hayton

Johnson would be a roster guy. He was with Buffalo almost the whole year

Thats what I am saying. I think it would need to be a first for them to come off Hayton

I wouldn't say it is for a former 5th overall pick. At 23 he is a great Top 6 center. Look at the price paid for Byram, one year younger almost Identical draft position (Left Defense compared to Center) and you gave up Middlestadt.

Hayton has one season with more than 23 points, his 10 points right now in his draft +6 season is his 3rd best season of his career.

He also needs a new contract.

Bowen Byram is younger, has term and played an important role winning a cup.

Come on

No doubt,

But Hayton is also on a much much worse team, injured this season. And plays a more defensive style forward game. I think its closer than you are making it out to be
