Keep Building for the Future

Created by: Lancebmx
Team: 2024-25 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 31, 2024

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The idea with this scenario is we sign Raymond and Seider to long term extensions for the hopes that their contracts will provide exceptional value in the future when we are a contender.

Signed Pesce to help improve the defense and be a good partner for Edvinsson, Roy is another target who I feel well be a bit cheaper. Just went with Pesce for this instance.

I let Perron and Sprong walk, mostly for cap reasons but also to allow younger players like Kasper and Mazur get regular NHL time.

Bought out Petry and Holl, just don't think Holl is a fit and Petry could probably retire.

I traded Fabbri just to alleviate some cap. He's having a decent season with limited usage. Maybe a team like San Jose or Arizona could utilize him a bit more.

If Kasper or Mazur aren't ready, we could sign a couple cheap one year contracts to replace them.

All in all, I don't expect this team to make the playoffs but they could surprise. Likely finish around the same place this year, close but not quite making it.

Ideally, we see a bunch of growth from the younger guys.

Giving any free agent contracts actually scares me. Look at Compher and Copp. Almost every team has to overpay. Part of the reason I went with 5 years and not 6. Either way, Pesce and Roy likely get longer term deals as they will be looking for their last big contract. Tanev might be a better option but he is really up there in age.

That's way too much money for pesce. I wouldn't offer him anymore then a 5x5. Roy is the preferred target imo. I honestly think detroit is better off grabbing a guy on a 1 or 2 year deal then locking up another aging free agent.

Roy and Pesce are interchangeable in this scenario. I think Pesce is better but that is also easily debatable. I don't disagree with adding a guy with only a couple years. Tanev could be that guy but I think he extends with Dallas. I don't think a guy on a 5 year deal will really hurt though. 2-3 years for ASP I would expect. Who knows with Johansson and Gibson.
