Nope from the Rangers. They need RW's and are not giving Kakko away.

Tbh I'm kinda intrigued by this one because it also sheds Goodrow. The Rangers would get about $7M by moving him & Kakko which could then be used on a FA right wing like Marchessault or Teravainen.
Highly doubt it happens in real life but this would be something I'd legit consider if it did

You said he didn't look good lol. And center is absolutely a need unless Chytil is cleared, which I really doubt.

How would you feel if the Rangers traded Laffy last season? Kakko is too young with too much potential to give away, especially considering he is a natural RW that plays a strong all around game.

They can get a better player than him and better 3C in the free agency

Better off keeping Kakko and buying out goodrow

I was vehemently against it like everyone else but Kakko's a year ahead of Laffy yet clearly has a lower ceiling than him. It's not the best comparison.
Same reason why I was willing to offer Kakko in a potential Jake Guentzel trade this deadline.

And you can get a better player than Kakko in free agency while also saving three years of dead salary cap as an added bonus. Not to mention it would be a top line right wing instead of a third line center... lol

They’re not gonna sign some big name free agent when they have to pay KAM, Laffy and Igor the following year lol

Besides Drury didn’t even trade Kakko for Guentzel, that should tell you everything you need to know

Not everyone develops at the same pace, plus Kakko has had a few injuries to overcome. Last year he was developing nicely and this year took a step back first half of the year but has been much better since he got healthy. I bet he signs a 2 year deal and has a nice breakout season next year. Probably a nice playoffs this year as well.

And I said the exact same thing - I highly doubt it would ever come into fruition. A Guentzel trade would've also been a 1 year rental. If Guentzel had an extension then you bet Kakko goes to Pittsburgh.

Yes, I'm fully aware of how development works especially with having to deal with Devils fans on Twitter wrongly labeling Kakko and Lafreniere busts every other day. It's not that I don't like Kakko - you are right about his potential. But we're up to year 5 now. If he's going to be in the way of a bonafide 1RW... then so be it. 3RW is an easier hole to fill.

So you’d basically get rid of Kakko for worse players and they don’t need to dump goodrow when he is buy-out friendly lmao

Real smart thinking

Sure, let's also keep Julien Gauthier and Vitali Kravtsov over Frank Vatrano and Pavel Buchnevich because they're both still prospects who just needed more time

Vatrano was casualty because of goodrow and Vatrano isn’t even that good

Buch was “cap casualty” or so they say, didn’t have a trade market and yes they tried for once to develop kravtsov and/or Kakko. Not to forget they had 2 coaches who didn’t care about about developing young talent unlike Laviolette

Maybe he never pans out as a 1 RW, but his next contract should be short enough, probably 2 years and cheap enough that they can always still move him next year or next off-season if he doesn't take a step forward. What I would hate to see is they give him away and then he becomes a top 6 RW.

If I was the GM of the shark, I wouldn’t do that NYR trade. Let them keep Kappo. If he wasn’t a 2OA, then people wouldn’t value him so high. His play hasn’t backed it up.

Bordeleau has promise, doing more with less around him.

Sure Kappo might be a top RW one day, but right now he is not.

Goodrow is extremely buyout friendly after this year, so dont want to lose Kakko for basically nothing

He's so much more valuable now to NYR than anything they would get in a trade
