The Sabres are weird because individually the players are all so good. Even the defence... Maybe it's a "team defence" issue? Maybe they need some older veteran players? I don't know anymore. But I've been a huge KA advocate since day 1 and I believe he will achieve long-term success, progress isn't always linear.

you dont see too many acgms anymore because the worst kept secret is the owner wont spend on the team. Having said that, no offense but those moves above make the team so much worse. Matt Dumba at 4 million? yikes.

Edit: Kane at 6.5?!

Erik Johnson was a triumphant success.

Are you trying to say because EJ wasn't a fit that Adams is a bad GM? Or are you saying that it proves they don't need veteran help? Either way I disagree

The second one, and its not to say they dont need veteran help. Its that they shouldnt be seeking players out simply because they are veterans. That doesn't matter if the player is no good.

They need good veterans, but good veterans aren't signing or waiving for Buffalo. So the next best option is to just ice the best team you can and be patient. Because the more they try to double down on cycling through guys like Lyubushkin and Johnson, the further they actually delay success.

If you look at the wins above replacement values for sabres skaters over the last few years, its almost always these "leadership" guys who are at the bottom. What do I care what EJ says in the locker room if he cant play?

yah just chucked it together. dont think there is too much available, but yeah its an over pay

Kane has proven his hip is fine and he is arguably the best player on the wings right now. I had him at 6 initially but hes a PPG guy and still drives the line and the play. hes still showtime, man! Could arguably go for more.

its not even about Kane, 6.5 million for a player type where theyve already got a bunch of guys coming through doesnt make any sense. They need more two way guys.

Also should consider that the Sabres have tried to add Kane twice now and hes said no. Its possible, bordering on likely, that he simply doesnt want to play in buffalo.

Yes I agree with all of this. They need someone who can play in the top 6/top 4 who has been in the playoffs several times. For example in this year's FA crop Stephenson, Marchessault, Pavelski, Guentzel could all fit that bill. But like you said, none of them are signing with Buffalo lol so it's a moot point.

Gotcha. Your points are logical. You'd probably know more than me. I don't follow the Sabres much, but I can't blame Kane.

So you're saying sign guys like Dakota Joshua? Who would you want to target.

Edit. I wonder if they would be interested in a guy like Nick Jensen and Lindholm

They just have to draft them. They could hypothetically make another byram style deal, where they trade the better/more established player for someone who isnt as good right now but has a higher ceiling.

But having already done that move and take on on that risk, if they do that again and it goes sideways he's losing his job in a few months.

They can't even afford to pay Joshua what he'll get in FA lol.

They cant target anyone. Theyre on everybodys No trade, and the owner is spending like he runs the coyotes. They just have to keep drafting well and hope something eventually gives.

He could be, WSH being competitive again may change their desire to move him for a reasonable amount though.
