Description
Washington has a super interesting offseason incoming. They are one of very few teams who are in playoff contention with real cap space, and Ovechkin looking to pass Gretzky gives a reason for many free agents to sign with them. As an outsider, not a fan, I think their biggest need are at center and another good defencemen. Hanifin is a no-brainer as the best defencemen on the board and still very young, if Washington can get him, I'm sure they would. Duchene is a really solid fit up front, to build a really nice top 9 forward group. I'm sure it looks like an overpay but Duchene will likely appreciate a 3-year deal, and I doubt most teams will pursue him super heavily as his market last year was lackluster and he's been previously bought out. The jensen trade really could go anywhere but if Tanev leaves Dallas I'm sure they would want an experienced and physical defencemen to replace him. The compensation could obviously be adjusted

I'd imagine Duchene would come in to play wing, I would be shocked if Strome/McMichael/Lapierre/Dowd wasn't the opening night center rotation

McMichael has recently been splitting some of his ice time by playing wing. I wouldn't hate to see him play 2LW if they were to get another center in free agency, but I think the winger market has higher end pieces. Agree that Duchene should be on the wing if they were to add him, but I'd personally want them to go bigger - get Guentzel or Reinhart if he's available.
