This is a fantasy land if you havent noticed as no one here is a real GM. Shocking.. I know!

They can sign 50 year old Jagr while they are at it, too. Hell, bring back Plekanec and they can finally have the Pleks-Jags combo that Habs fans dreamed about 15 years ago.

Since this is a fantasy website for armchair GMs, I added Patrick Kane with the hypothesis that he wants to play for all 6 original six teams. I agree though, that might be a stretch. Stamkos reuniting with his mentor St-Louis is probably more likely.

You're asking FSG to eat $12m in dead money. No ownership group is absorbing that money without a significant return.

Letang himself is worth one late first. He's still playing 24:40/game and producing at elite rates at ES. He's much weaker defensively than he used to be, but as a 2RD, he's well above average. The $12m in dead money is what the other 1st is for.

Quoting: Schuyler
San Jose accepted to absorb nearly 10m for a 3rd round pick and 2 garbage prospects on Burns who is much better than letang

-oooooh boooooooy. so letang has a full NMC so he has the power to say no to such a trade. 99% sure he will be the one to veto the trade.
-dubas would be chased out of town for moving letang or malkin, espcially when both are still playing well (though not at the height of their powers)
-if kyle dubas even wanted to move a defenseman hed probably move erik karlsson, not the guy who has won 3 championships and played his entire career in pittsburgh
-jake guentzel is more than likely going to be under contract with a different team in a championship window.
-lets just pretend for the moment that youre right to assume that crosby wants out of pittsburgh. his first choice is to play in colorado with his best friend nathan mackinnon.

Crosby isn't taking a discount to play in MTL. I have my doubts he'll take a discount anywhere including PIT at this rate.

That Slafkovsky contract. I don't see it happening. Either from the player side or the team side.
If Slafkovsky thinks he's on the cusp of a breakout, he'll play next year to cash in on that.
As for as MTL, you don't sign guys after 1 year of production. That can go sideways so quickly. There is no need or hurry to resign him. If he stays where he's at right now next year, that same contract in place is a huge overpayment.
If that's what you are willing to pay this year, any increase from that cap hit that you might pay, is negligible and not worth the risk assessment.
In other words, he'd have to have a whole lot more production than 16 goals and 44 points to be worth almost 8 million as those numbers are 4-5 mil range given a RFA discount.
Odds of him being worth 8m from what he put up this year isn't worth the risk that he doesn't blow those numbers out the water and hence get a much smaller contract.
It's bad business to extend him at that rate.

TBF, the Burns comp is closer.

Larsson was only 22-23 years old and ate top pair minutes at that age.

Letang is 37 in 2 weeks, players that old almost never return a lot

What did adam larsson cost?
I can cherry pick too.
Give us your top LW and we can give you letang half retained.
Grow up bud. This is just pathetic

One point of note, Letang’s deal was front end loaded. It’d be $7.2mm retained, following a 2025 trade, (the point of this post) not $12mm.

1. I never said Crosby wants out of Pittsburgh just that he wouldn't laugh at an offer of 8.7 mil for 3 years to play in Montreal.

2. Again I never said Letang wouldn't veto the trade or that Pittsburgh would be willing to trade him just that he wouldn't be laughing at being traded to his hometown to keep playing with Crosby.

3. I never said Dumba$$ would trade Letang over Karlson just that he wouldn't laugh at the value he is getting back.

4. I never said anything about Guntzel

5. And most importantly, this is not my thread I didn't create it, I just commented on why those players/ fans/teams wouldn't be laughing at the trades and signings

laugh Lucas Raymond > Slafkovsky, Slafkovsky hasn't done a thing to warrant close to getting close to $8,000,000 per.

laugh Guentzel, Crosby and Patrick Kane aren't wasting their time in Montreal shakes head
