1C is the most impossible roster spot to fill, it's just not happening. He's got 5+ more years of prime production and 7 more years on his deal. Even in a full teardown that's not a piece you move.

Pesce isn't signing that, he'll easily get 7 x $6,500,000 on the open market. And maybe it might just be Detroit.

Would you trade Aho for that?

It's impractical to ask for a team to trade a young core piece that's signed long term to an extremely team friendly deal for pieces like that. That is the piece we are building around and have been for the last 2-3 years. There's no logical situation in which we tear down the centerpiece and expect good things to happen.

Aho's a really bad comparable since hes better in every facet of the game. Eichel's probably a better comparable, and this is more than that... probably an overpayment by Carolina. Neither team does this

Eichel is not a good comparison for any trade, because there were so many contextual factors that led to that trade.

Aho and Thomas are not worlds apart from each other. Aho plays on better team and is also two years ahead in his career.
Points is they are both True 1C's and the deal above makes no sense.

In all likelihood you are trading an entire prime of a Elite 1C for Necas and probably some middle six level players.

If you think Nadeau is going to be a middle six player, you missed the boat on his ENTIRE dominant season in the NCAA. He's 18, already played in the NHL, and is likely going to be a great top line player for a long time... Eichel is a better comparable because the totals are closer. Aho just had a 89 point season in 75 games. To say 100 was a possibility for him isn't a stretch. Thomas has one PPG season in his career. He's not proven he's a true 1C. In fact, given his defensive analytics, I'd argue he should probably be a 2C on a contender. He's not playing 1C over guys like Aho, Matthews, Point, Barkov, Zibanejad, MacKinnon, Eichel etc etc.

The spinning is actually insane. Crazy how you can put so much faith in Nadeau and in the same breath say that Thomas hasn't proven himself to be a 1C. For what its worth Aho isn't playing 1C to any of the people you listed either.

It’s actually impressive the way he spins things over and over.

Aho's playing 1C over Eichel, Zibanejad, Barkov, and Point. Thomas isn't. Thomas is closer to someone like Nick Suzuki in his skillset. A very, VERY good player. But a bona fide 1C? I struggle to see that.

Difference between Thomas and Nadeau is Nadeau is 18. Thomas is 24. Thomas will get a little better, but it's unlikely he takes another significant step. Nadeau already looks like a lock to play in Carolina's top 9 next year at 19. They cannot be compared. When Nadeau gets to 24, he could be the same quality as Thomas. He could be worse, he could be better. But to say middle six for Nadeau is an extreme amount of either ignorance or blatant incorrectness.
