I could see it. I think someone gives Joshua a ridiculous deal. He has that vibe to me. I'd rather see Kasper in the bottom 6 somewhere.

Me too. But I also wouldn't hate for him to be 1C in GR for a bunch of the season and be first call up. One thing Yzerman said in his press conference, he would rather have guys getting a bunch of ice time in Grand Rapids rather than ride the bench and only play 10 minutes a night. He would have to outperform Veleno, Fischer or Berggren.

I think Roy is seriously considering a move to Detroit, if they are interested in him and if the Kings can't offer anything close to that.
I also see his value between $5,5m - $6m AAV for 5 or 6 years.
The Kings will have a hard time to keep him and unfortunately it's pretty likely that he won't stay in LA.
If he leaves, I would be happy for him, if it's his hometown.

I think they can afford to let him go with Clarke and Spence. Might set them back slightly but they can use that cap to improve other areas.

Yzerman seems more interested in keeping Gostisbehere.

If that's the case Detroit will be out on Roy.

They can't afford both.

I know, I think it's silly.

He did say that a deal would have to make sense for both sides. Maybe he wants to keep him but for less than he would want on the market?

Barrie can provide the same service. Probably be quite a bit cheaper since he had a down year being behind Josi.

Well if Detroit wants to improve defensively Barrie certainly won't help.

He's a lesser version of Ghost.

I don't know how bad Ghost wants to stay in Detroit?

Other teams know he sucks at defense but they love his points.

I thought Roy was a shoe in for Detroit being a Michigan Boy and knowing their need for a top 4 RD.

But apparently not? 🙄

Maybe Yzerman doesn't want Roy on the payroll for 5-6 years when he knows ASP will be a Red Wing in 2 years?

Let's say Yzerman signs Roy.

And signs Barrie for cheap as you suggest.

Run 8 defensemen. He actually mentioned doing that already. I signed Reimer but that could easily be a spare forward.
ASP is staying in Sweden this season. Probably a year in Grand Rapids at least, maybe a bit more. Similar route as Edvinsson I would expect. That's 3 years or so before he's on the team. Deal with Roy at the time, never know what transpires by then. Roy could be a good, overpaid though, third pairing guy by that time. The salaries can be dealt with at the time. I personally would prefer Roy or a similar player to Gost. I get the desire to have a good powerplay quarterback though which is why I brought in Barrie. At this cost, it doesn't matter if Barrie is not good defensively, I want him strictly to PPQB.

Unfortunately I dont think Kane is coming back but that top 6 is really ugly - Perron can't skate and Joshua is not a top 6 forward.

I like the idea of signing Barrie to a low risk deal.

I agree, top 6 sucks. But I wanted to upgrade the defense. Perron is a great leader and is hard to play against. Also agree Joshua isn't a top 6 forward either, but he to is tough to play against.

I'd worry about Joshua turning into Abdelkader after he signs his big UFA contract.

He was once a Leafs reject because he didn't fit Dubas' under 6 feet requirement.

6'3, 206 lbs
