Montreal is giving up 2 two best players in this trade and received another small forward, a defenseman who won’t play in the NHL. A forward prospect that will become free agent and a russian player who is a big ? mark. Hugues and Gorton express themselves at the press conference that they like to get bigger up front. This doesn’t help them at all.

Im not sure if you know who Danila Yurov is but calling him a huge question mark is a little off base

I know all about Yurov and yes he is a question mark. First there always the russian factor. He could stay in russia for many year. He could be a bust, he is still only a prospect playing in a much weaker Khl since the start of the war. Scouting have been really hard for russian players also. All those factor combine increase considerably the risk for Yurov.

I'd kind of understand the point if he was playing for CSKA, but Metallurg doesn't have ties to the russian military or Putin. It's also been way overblown how Russian players are "DND"s because of the chance that they wont come over. Who's the last major russian draft prospect that sat there and didnt defect? People like to call it an issue, but it really isnt. He's debating extending in Metallurg because Guerin wouldnt commit to giving him a lineup spot, not because he wants to stay in Russia forever.

The russian factor is overblown. Major Russian prospects historically have not balked on NHL opportunities. it's a non-issue

It’s a issue if they came into the league at 24. That the problem, not that they won’t make it. Team have absolutely no control on development. This is a concern for many organization.
