Description
Carolina trade to me makes sense they get a bonfire centreman in nuge who came off a bad year But he was also playing 3rd line centre sometimes and 2nd line only against teams best lines defensively I feel as though a change of scenery would be good for him especially if he's getting 1st line minutes again with talent like Aho and Skinner as his primary wingers. As for lindholm I like the kid. I like the fact he is a right shot and he would cost us 4 million a year next year. I think he would be thrilled playing as McDavid line mate. I threw in the picks as equalizers. Nuge being a centre for longer and being more of a veteran on a long term contract that Carolina can afford. Nuge lit it up with first line minutes centring hall and eberle so I think he can seriously put up 60-65 points playing with who and skinner.

As for signing. I signed Mike Fischer because he is a veteran. He is a right shot centreman and Chia would love to have one. (Assuming Strome plays on the wing) he would compliment guys like Jokinén and pulajarvi. All different style Fischer is a gritty hard working agitater of a player and Jokinén has that drive to compete and he is having a off season so I'm assuming he would like to drive to try and get a better an longer contract next year. Poolparty is a big winger. He is strong on the puck and I expect he tries to play up the wing and try and fight to be McDavid's winger again

The most important part the Draisitil signing. Now I know the oilers having an act for giving some controversial signing see examples as eberle nuge Russell lucic. But I believe if he does sign a 7 million dollar contract. It will be long term. Meaning over time the cap will go up and if he can drive his own line and put up 60 points while working on his 2 way game and getting gradually better at face offs, I feel like in the long run this could be a steal. He will do very well this year I think and overall I think all these moves make sense.

These things look very nice, but I doubt that you can sign Drai for these terms. If PC offered him this contract during the last season until march, Drai wouldn´t even think about denying such an offer. After the playoffs he still might have signed this offer, but not after PC signed CMD for $100 million. IMO PC made several mistakes during signing his two top centers, first Leon last year, maybe even to a 3 year bridge contract worth $13.5 to $15 million and Connor this year to a 4 year bridge deal between $39 and max $45 million.

Agreed! I honestly think PC is lucky as hell. In my opinion he makes a multitude of really costly mistakes with every team he manages, but is lucky enough to be inheriting really good teams which cover up some of those mistakes.

The seguin and Hall trades still blow my mind, but more recently, even if he did want to give McDavid the ridiculous 12.5M contract, he should've signed Drai first before he saw those bloated numbers. Now every Oiler is going to judge his expected pay on a substantially elevated scale. Yzerman managed to get Stammer under $9M.. I know, McDavid > Stamkos, but Stammer was a soon to be UFA, and McDavid is still an RFA. Additionally, nobody in the league was getting over $10.5m.. You give him a whopping 2M more than the next highest paid? To me these are just idiotic moves that will certainly affect this club, especially in the coming years as a bunch of their talent comes off of ELCs. Though as a Ducks fan, I'm not complaining smile

Locking up the best player in the world to max term with him leaving money on the table ahould be celebrated. Anyone who calls it a mistake is insane. In 4 years mcdavid could be much more on the open market. You mow have him for his entire prime

I like the way you have two centers on each line, LH and RH. McLellan would love that roster, he could have each guy taking his strong-side faceoffs.

I have the feeling that Fisher's wife would Janet Gretzky the signing, but I would love to see him on the Oilers.

I'm not happy that Slepyshev has to sit. I'm a fan... I suppose some internal competition for roster spots is healthy, though.

McDavid is the best thing coming up to hockey besides Crosby lately. He just eclipsed 100 points and is by far the best player since Crosby so signing him for the same cap hit isn't close to be moronic or idiotic. You can never use the stamps contract as a comparing. Seeing as though Florida has no major taxes stamkos truly makes what he see

Thanks man I think Fischer would be the perfect third line centre for this year. Right handed good at face offs. Gritty strong and a veteran plus still has a good two season left at 40 + points. Especially if he gets powerplay time I was thinking he'd maybe take a pay cut since he's joining a young up and coming team but we will see

Thanks for all the feed back boys

grovercleveland and Dylan1995, yes it is correct that this McDavid deal is very good in lets say 4 or 5 years. Yes, McDavid would ask for lets say $14 million in 5 years.
But the cap will be much higher then (I think + $83 million), so this 14 million would be much easier to handle.
And you would have, if you could have signed Drai to a 3 year bridge contract, much more money left for good guys in 18/19 and 19/20.
In my opinion they have only this year for a SC run, because next year with both guys signed to big contracts you don´t have enough money left.
And please, don´t tell me, CP can trade RNH, you have other guys to be paid and why should these guys play for less than they are worth.

This is a popular misconception when it comes to taxes in Florida. Florida and Texas have the lowest tax rate in North America (I think), but they still pay taxes. For Stamkos the tax rate is 39.08%, meaning that he pays $3,322,169.95 in taxes each year. If he lived in Alberta, he would pay 47.66% or $4,051,317.04 - a total difference of $729,147.

So a $8.5MM salary in Florida is equivalent to a $9.25MM salary in Alberta. Alberta's taxes are lower than NY and California while Ontario and Quebec charge a hair more than those populous American states. Stamkos on the Leafs or Sens would owe $4,516,082.97 to the government annually - a whopping $1.2 million more than in Florida!

FYI Alberta's taxes rates are about average in the league, not enough to play a critical role in a free agents decision.

Uh what? Haha we will have around 27 million to sign 10 guys ... You can look into the long term option which clearly shows a cap hit of 50 million plus the cap going up by let's say 2 million that equal 27 million
