Even if Gudas wanted to play for you guys, that doesn’t even come close to getting him out of Anaheim

Gudas is a unique and good player but he's 2 million overpaid. The Ducks could use that 4 million cap hit more wisely. If he was cheaper he would definitely get back a bigger return.

Yeah no

We are more than happy paying him $4,000,000 and we certainly aren’t looking to move him or ‘use our cap better’

How would we use the cap hit more wisely? He's out only RHD signed for next season, brings a level of grit and intensity that's been missing for years, and we have what, 30+ million in cap space next season? Gudas is in the unique spot where in order to replace what he does for us would cost a fortune.

The Pacific division is weak. Anaheim has a great young core, with a proven goalie, plus California is always a great destination for free agents. The Ducks should target Reinhart and Stamkos in free agency. They could make the playoffs next year and make noise.

I’m sorry but this is a really bad ducks take. I’d pay him another $1M on his contract before accepting this trade offer easily. What in his performance this season suggests he’s only worth $2M? (As a heads up, it’s in your best interest not to answer this, any Duck fan here will easily be able to share stats at the drop of a hat that will make your $2M value seem laughable)

That may have been harsh, but I just don't think 4th-6th defencemen should be getting over 4 or more million. It also depends on what kind of team the Ducks want to be. I think they should aim for the playoffs next year. But it's not a bad contract because there's only 2 years left.

Rangers aren't interested in Marner especially if this is the cost.

But the point is, we have the cap space to target (and win) both while keeping Gudas. His deal is short, it expires when all the youth are due new contracts.

1. He isn’t a 4th-6th for us in ANA
He logs the 2nd most minutes among any player for ANA. His performance in those minutes also suggest he isn’t a 4-6. The dude has one of the highest dZone start% among all Ducks >61% and meanwhile has the highest +/- on the team at +14 (and this is a team with a -91 goal differential with 4 guys that managed a positive +/- at all)

2. Even if he were a 4-6, you said they aren’t worth more than $4M. He isn’t paid more than $4M. And on top of that, you suggested he was worth half that. I’m just not seeing how that makes sense

At the end of the day this all comes back to your point that ANA has a better use for the money and should be trading him. I think we should be able to agree that’s a silly proposition while they’re well under the cap now, so he’s stopping them from signing nobody, and his term conveniently ends the same offseason that they have to re-sign Leo, Gauthier, Zegras, Mintyukov, and Drysdale
