We would have to get some cap out I am sure. Smith at the very least haha.. cant see us adding 11M without sending some away.

Having Cowen Minten Knies and Pickering playing on the leafs on their ELCs would be huge for them, and I think Marner would fit in well in Pittsburgh. Pressure of being a hometown kid has got to him it seems.

No thank you. Bud legit looks like the worst player in the playoffs. Hes been a major liability for the Leafs. Unless hes super cheap and their taking contracts back, it's a no from me personally.

49 points in 54 playoff games. Easy to blame one player, but he does show up.

Hes not worth it at nearly 11 mil. Like I said, unless Toronto is taking back Rakell or Smith and Eller or something along those lines, we shouldnt be going for him. Just my own opinion.

      Work to do what?

It'd keep PIT in the "Not good enough to win, not bad enough to gain a meaningful prospect" group while making their incoming rebuild even tougher, if that's what you mean by, "Work".

Penguins not going to put their prospects or 1st round picks on rental Marner.

Genuinely curious where the "Marner sucks in the playoffs" take comes from? Sounds like it's just Leafs fans complaining and doesn't actually hold much weight

I know you're not haha - I just meant that in the general sense. Has he actually been pathetic though? I don't really see anything to back that up.

Hes making nearly 11 mil, only has 2 points, has been very very soft. He also just doesnt look like hes trying when hes in the defensive zone especially on the PK. Hes been a liability for the Leafs defensively. And to top it off he was throwing fits on the bench just to get another shift 2 seconds later. If your teammates are yelling at you, you're obviously not doing something right.

I appreciate the detailed response. I guess I just don't think one average postseason means you're bad in the playoffs or a liability. Crosby had a 3 year postseason run where he scored like 6 points in 14 games - but we all know it would be crazy to say he's bad in the playoffs.

And for this posteason specifically, Marner had a lower xGA/60 and SCA/60 than basically all of the Leafs "major" forwards, so he must have been doing something right defensively. Also had a 59% xGF. I guess I just 1) don't think one postseason series defines you as a player and 2) don't see where he was actually terrible even in this one postseason series.

I still wouldn't break the bank to trade for him though - I agree there.
