Hmm. Feel like the right guy is Keller for the Leafs to do this.

Yeah while I do agree I don't think Marners value right now is high enough for the trade to include Keller and I think this package is better because you get a guy who has the potential to be a point per game guy and a good starter which the leafs need badly

Do you really think Marner as a 11mil expiring UFA (following a weak season and a horrible playoffs) gets you that return?

Ingram sure, but Macelli after his prior two seasons and believing him to be a cheaper ppg player and a 2nd too?

All these leaf proposals are looking to trade marner, but few teams are going to give up equal or good value for an expiring 11mil player who is being run out of Toronto and coming off one of his worst seasons.

Weak season where he put up 101 point pace?

Weak season: If all you want is offense then exhibit A is the Leafs/Marner in the playoffs. If all you want is pts, he did not have a weak season.

Weak season in which he did offensively produce, but all leaf fans are looking to trade him for every other aspect of his game. As an expiring 11mil UFA, probably getting 13+ on his next contract, I'd want something more than just a 101 pt pace on an offensive powerhouse team with 2 other players who can put those pts up.

Is he the weakest link? No. But according to most, he is in one single player everything that is wrong with the Leafs.

He is a great offensive player, and IMO directly responsible for Matthews great offensive year, but most see him as the fall guy and that Matthews can do no wrong. He could work well on other clubs, and IMO, Leafs have a defensive issue, then a coaching issue, with some self serving entities, not marner alone as the culprit. But if pts is all that matters and the same disappointing result and mental "fragility" dont bother you then sure, hes/the team had a great year

The sheep will follow the herd. Marner 47points Matthews-44points Nylander-41points in 50playoff games before this season. Marner weighs 30-50 pounds less than Matthews, JT, Nylander and Rielly. You don't hear anything about their lack of physical play. Not one of those 4 make a big hit ever. Matthews has been his most physical this playoffs but now he's hurt. Rielly is the worse #1 d-man in the playoffs but you don't hear anything about his in ability to clear the front of the net, make a check like McCabe or Benoit, play the PK and has the worse point shot of any #1 d-man in the league.

This is some next-level brainwashing. We're in a world where people actually think Marner can't return a 50-point winger and a 1B goalie, simply because he's on a 1-year deal, lol.

Let's also talk about the leafs imaginary #1 d-man who is a #3 on any real contender. 11yrs Rielly has had a chance to develop a slapshot and one-timer. He is useless as a point threat on the PP, doesn't PK, can't clear the front of the net, never stands up at the blueline to make a big hit or a hit at all. Any mid-level offensive d-man that can make an outlet pass could put up similar numbers at half the cost as Rielly.

Maybe its a stretch but Macelli at 23 yrs old has 106 pts in 146 games last 2 yrs on a bad team, with bad offense, so just a 50 pt winger is a bit of a put down, and Ingram is a 1B goalie and a 2nd seems a bit much, and certainly a one dimensional play making winger probably looking at a 13+mil re-sign is a not an easy pill to swallow for most clubs without them throwing in a cap dump/expensive player.

It does hurt Marner's value to be an expiring UFA especially at that cap hit, in addition to the general leaf fan consensus that other than pts marner delivers nothing else.

A bit scary to think that 5 pretty non physical players who specialize in offense and are collectively average at all other facets (and have continually fizzled in the playoffs the last 5-6 yrs, even though its costing them almost 15mil over the cap to do so this year) might gobble up 55mil of the 88mil cap on a team with 4 expiring UFA starting defensemen, 11 of the other 20 current roster players expire, possess just 4 picks in the first 4 rounds of the next 3 drafts and just one (injury prone) goaltender.

I dont think they can continue down this path, but also I dont think moving Marner alone fixes all the ills that this team has.

Marner was a Selke finalist about two years ago and is arguably still our best defensive forward at 5v5 and an integral part of our penalty kill. He's far from "one-dimensional."

I agree, just it’s not 100% correct to say he had a weak season
