Graves needs 20-25% retention for Calgary to consider taking on his contract. Too much term on it otherwise.

He played very good yes. Plays physical as well and uses his size. And exactly he's only 27. One of the younger players of the free agent class. Play him with Sid he gets at LEAST 45 points.

omg the play him with sid so he does well argument. How about, he's not a 1st line player and he should be able to play good on the 3rd line where they need it so the penguins can get a real 1st liner.

He's 27 has 1 season.... his odds of flaming out are probably higher than matching. There is no way I sign that deal, just like VAN didn't want to offer that up.
If he was a RFA he's be given a show me contract, for good reason. Lets not just throw wads of cash because we can. Lets actually build a team.

But its true. We play players with Sid because it expands their game. We did for Rust, Guentzel, O'Connor. If those players didn't start playing with Crosby they wouldn't have become the players they are now lets be honest.

Sid isn't what made Guentzel a 40 goal guy. Guentzel's own ability did that. The same is Rust, who didn't come up on Sid's line he came up on Malkin's line. We worked his way up.

Fact is that is not a 1st line guy. Where they need help is 1LW and 3RW along with the whole 3rd pairing.
So if you are bringing him in it's to play 3RW and we can stop worrying about Crosby pumping him.
There is so much more to playing hockey then being physical. That is not the reason this team lost games this year. They lost because the 3rd pairing sucked, the power play didn't perform, they are old and slow and got dusted on 3v3 and blew 3rd period leads with tired legs, they lacked scoring in the depth.
None of that has anything to do with being physical. 4x5 for a 1 hit wonder is not good GMing. That's how you get stuck with a bad 4m contract for 4 more years.
If you going to toss money at a FA, at least let them have a track record of success. If JR in VAN won't sign it, and we know he is a good GM, why the hell would we?
