These plug signings are dumb... Grandpa Habs

Description
We just signed Mark Streit, the 39-year old who declined three seasons ago already.

Not to mention, we're just clogging more and more bottom-liners, forcing us into more of the same issues as last year: losing good players to waivers (Mike Condon, Mark Barberio), offensive players forced onto lines with plugs and then not producing so traded away for scraps (Sven Andrighetto).

Watch more of the same happen with Charles Hudon, Jakub Jerabek, Brandon Davidson, Peter Holland, Joe Morrow (though I only care about the first two, maybe three).

He's a depth move, and a guy who can help on the pp. I still am not convinced that Markov is not coming back. Streit has 13 pp points last season, so nothing wrong with a depth signing like that. He put up 27 points in 60 something games last season, and 700k its a bargain

But he will have to take up a roster spot in order to even be on the powerplay. What will you do with him during the rest of his 15-ish min when he's on the ice being a defensive liability / pylon?
The money isn't the problem for me, it's his spot and his aging defensive woes.

I agree, our defense is now starting to look like our forward group of the last three years - no high end talent just bottom feeders that take time and space from our prospects.
The trouble this year is that now we have a hell of a log jam at both forward and defense.

In the forward group - I really hope that Bergevin opts to keep Hudon, Carr and DLR up rather than have them go through waivers - this means they would have to expose Holland, Martisen, Froese and Terry at the start of the season to waivers. I would much rather expose the later 4 and risk losing them than expose the first 3 and risk losing them.

On defense, some decisions also have to be made on who we will expose.
Jerabek is waiver exempt so sending him to Laval to start would risk nothing but I don't think that'll happen.
then you have Morrow, Taormina, Davidson, Schlemko, and Redmond - of those, who would you risk losing and who would you not want to risk?
IMO - it would be easier to swallow to expose Morrow,Taormina, Redmond, Schlemko and Streit (if it came down to it) - (I have high hopes for Davidson).

Now, when I say expose, I'm not saying we're definitely losing these players if we expose them.
I'm just saying which would you rather risk?
At this point, players like Hudon, DLR, Carr and Davidson have higher ceilings than the rest.

have you guys even seen him play recently? He can still play defensively, and can be a bottom pairing defender, with a bit of offense. As for Holland, terry etc, those guys are pure depth moves, and will play most of the season in Laval. If this is ur reaction to signing a 39 year old vet d man, imagine if the habs sign Jagr! Let's be a bit more open minded. I mean, we as fans can criticize our management all we like, but at the end of the day, there is a reason they are part of management, and we are not.

If any of Charles Hudon, Jakub Jerabek, Brandon Davidson are gone before the next season's end, unless for a worthwhile trade, I'll be supremely pissed. I'm already riled up about losing Barberio, Andrighetto, and possibly even Condon (though I can let that last one slide due to our goalie depth). As stated above, that's what I'm most worried about. Last season was a heartbreaker for me, and it was directly caused by the acquisitions of Martinsen, King, and Ott.

Not too worried about Holland, Terry, Taormina, etc though. I'm confident they'll all be in minors, except possibly Holland for injuries (but probably not).

I totally agree, but like Julien said Hudon will be given every opportunity to succeed. Hopefully his offense and speed from the ahl translates to the nhl, and he becomes an amazing top 6 forward for us! As for jerabek, imo, he should be on the top pairing, and I'll compare him to Zaitsev, as Jerabek had more points then Zaitsev in the khl, played more, better defensively and Is about the same age.
